Prayers For Red Sox Star Matt Clement

Posted on 07/26/2005 5:28:28 PM PDT by CarlEOlsoniii

vanity

For any Boston Sox Fan Freepers (and I know there are some)please pray for Matt Clement. If you are watching the game, he was just incredibly hit by a hit ball in the head on the mound. He lied on the mound for at least five minutes, motionless. The most shocking moment I have seen in sports. Please pray

There once was this racoon that was snatching peaches from my peach tree. I went out in the back yard one night and this one and some buddies are munching on one of my damn peaches. So I go back in the house and pick up the nearest baseball. I go out in the back yard and the coons give me this, "Hey, asshole, what's your problem?" and they keep munching. So I go into my Herb Score (rightie version) and let it fly. WHAP! Right on the side of the head. The coons scatter, but the one just lay there twitching and then it stopped. I thought, jumping up and down with glee, "Holy crap! I killed it!" But then it staggered to its little peach smelling paws and wandered off. Little bastards never came back for any more peaches. I guess the one told the others about the bad hangover. This doesn't exactly fit the occasion, but it's a lighter subject for a change of pace.

Francona dropped that bomb on us at the end of Curt's rehab. He has been very good, one bad outing...just closed this one out, sox win.

He wants to start, but pushed himself too much this spring, messed himself u. This way the sox can get him in, and can limit his pitches.
He really has been terrific at it,our good closer Foulke is out with an injury, had been ineffective. At least compared to last year.

Now the guys on FSN New England are talking about Manny wanting a trade???
?

It never ends.

You had a heck of a team in Seattle at one point, were you a fan?

Hey, I see Schilling pitching. What's he doing in the bullpen?

I'm just a visiting 3 year amateur Boston fan, and I'm sure some real Bostonian will enlighten you, but, Schilling, ever since his World Series ankle injury, and subsequent off season rehab surgery, has been playing in the farm league.

After a while, they decided to use him as a major league closer to try to get him back up to speed as a starter.

I think he might have even suggested it.

Whadda Guy! Proud Republican Hard Workin' Guy.

Sox regular closer (Keith Foulke) is on the DL.

Thanks for the info!

I'm actually an Angel fan, being a native Californian and recent transplant to the Pacific Northwest. The Mariners are growing on me, though. Kind of like moss.

Thanks, I didn't realize he'd been having trouble. I guess I haven't been paying attention to the East.

Manny's so dumb, he thinks he's still in Cleveland. He wonders who all these new guys are and why they're all wearing Boston uniforms. He thinks it's one of those clubhouse tricks, but he's starting to wonder. His agent is not stupid, though, and that's all that counts.

Damon pretty much saved this game on his own... the guy is amazing!

What the heck is up with Manny and his stupid attitude? And I believe he struck out every time at bat tonight... geesh! :-(

"Holy crap! I killed it!"

I had a brother that hated squirrels for some reason.

The kindest, most gentle, guy in the world, but he was a gardener-type and hated squirrels eating his veggies.

He bought a rinky-dink pump-powered BB gun and would pop them in the hind legs to scare them away.

One day, he accimentaly hit one in the head and freaked out. "Oh, my God I killed it", as the little thing twitched in the patch. Got pretty wasted that night with remorse.

The worst part is that the damn squirrel took the BB through the eye, lived, as it lodged above the socket, and tormented my poor brother by displaying his hugh deformed wound for a long time after my brother retired his BB gun.

Me, I ran over a rabbit hole full of babies with the lawn mower by accident, and just said "Oh, well".

Brings back bad memories. When I was in college I got hit in the eye with the ball from about 10' trying to break up a double play. I was wearing hard contacts and the doc said thay may have actually saved my eye. All I remember is waking up around shortstop and having the worst black eye in the world.

Clement knocked out by line drive

Excerpt from article:

Clement was transported to nearby Bayfront Medical Center.

"I have spoken with Matt and his doctor in Florida," Red Sox medical director Thomas Gill said in a statement. "Matt himself never lost consciousness and is in good spirits, and the results of CAT scan were negative. He appears to be doing well."

Clement will stay overnight in the hospital as a precautionary measure, and be re-evaluated Wednesday morning.

I once had a raccoon get into my cellar and then up into the rafters. (Not before it destroyed the pantry at the top of the stairs) Didn't use a baseball to get it down however... Just opened a window. :-) With my throwing skills, I'd probably would have missed anyway.

Heh.
Manny definately seems to forget he is in left field sometimes.
Then he will make a great play...
I have really grown to like him, he has been happy, and he is a great hitter. Out of it tonight though.
Tried googling for more info, no luck.

I am really relieved about Clement.
Die hard, i confess to thinking...oh no, there goes the season while they were carrying the kid off the field.
Sheesh.

He would be a huge loss.
******
Report that Clement could return with the team, very positive report.FSN New England.

Man thet was scary, couldn't help but think of Darryl Stingley and Tony C.

Francona in the postgame was clearly shook. Talked about commmunicating with Matt's wife during the game.

There was a definate uptick on the bench, on the team at the time the news broke that he was okay. The team really is a
tight unit. Millar looked especially upset.

Good bunch of guys, this team.

Prayer efforts are sincerely appreciated. that is another fine aspect of FReeperdom. Or perhaps in the spirit of the sox fans so called "Red Sox Nation"
Freeper Nation.

Oops, my mistake... Manny hit a homer early in tonight's game... Just caught the re-play. Sorry Manny! :o)

He apparently still has some sort of an attitude problem though: Report: Manny wants out

Francona's old man Tito had great year in Cleveland in 1959. In 399 AB he hit .363 with 20 HR but not enough AB to win the title. (Harvey Kuenn, .353 in 561 AB.) I'm not sure how many you needed back then. 400 would be sad. He had 4 or 5 good years.

...Manny and his stupid attitude

$20 million a year would probably give me an attitude, too, I guess.

The name sounds familiar, but that's not important anyway. Prayers have been sent for him and for all those in similar situations.
