Last report was that he was conscious, alert and aware of what happened on the way to the hospital. They had him completely immobilized so it will be some time before we learn much more.

Thank God, and thank you for replying. I am relieved he's conscious and alert. He looked lifeless.

So rintense.............. do you uhhh, come here... often???
I figure, between your profile page and my screen name, we may have a future together??? However, I must warn you, you know what they say about guys with tough screen names, right???
Well, the fact that I'm Irish also certainly doesn't help matters there either... : )

Yeah, we need to keep praying that there is no swelling of the brain or blood buildup now. Many people with serious head injuries seem to be fine for hours and sometimes even days afterward.
I am sure he is getting the best care possible, but the next 12-24 hours will be crucial for Matt. May the Lord keep his hand upon him.

Something like this happened to me when I was a kid (explains a lot).
I'll warrant he'll be just fine after a few days. Though baseballs move quite fast, the mass/surface area ratio is relatively low when compared to a rock or lacrosse ball.

LOL! You're screen name always makes me laugh. I, of course, being the intense chick that I am, would have used the word ass. ;)
Oh, I'm not Irish, but have been accused of having an Irish temper. Does that count? LOL!
To: commish
You're right and I will continue to pray for him.

Good thinking. A rock would be worse, and I have no idea about the size or weight of a lacrosse ball. Cue ball, that one I know.

Latest report from ESPN
Clement could be seen blinking his eyes when he was placed on the stretcher, and the Red Sox said he was conscious and alert as he was taken to the Bayfront Medical Center near Tropicana Field for further evaluation.
"He had some numbness throughout the site where he got hit behind the right ear," said Lt. Rick Feinberg of the St. Petersburg Fire-Rescue.

...just havin' myself fun tonight...sorry!

After learning about your martial art's prowess, it's OK by me if you'd use the word "ass" or any other word for that matter...lol.
Irish temper counts too, and I have some O'Malley blood in my veins.

If you will allow an aside from Clement's injury - the battle for first place in the NL is going to Extra Innings in Atlanta - Washington 2 Atlanta 2

Late report from NESN (local Boston network) quoted team Doc as saying he never lost consciousness and CAT scan was negative. Needless to say he'll be staying the night at the hospital though...
