I remember the moment when I realized that I really like Tammy Bruce.
She said that in the days before she outed herself as a conservative it was announced that Ronald Reagan had Alzheimers disease. She said she found dozens of messages on her answering machine from liberal friends cheering Reagans misfortune. She said she sat down and cried for a while but then she got angry.

Tammy Bruce is one smart chick. At some point in her life she will be able to extend her conservative principles ("standards" over "because you can") to the issue of abortion.

I loved this;
President and Mrs. Bush and the Roberts family make the mistake of not pledging allegiance to the decline of culture. They insult the Left by reminding intellectually lazy Slaves to Decay like Chait and Givhan that class, decorum and respect still exist. Tradition, caring for one's family and caring for oneself are still values that prevail.
To: CHARLITE
How would Chait and his ilk have a clue about whether exercise is good for you?
The closest they probably have been to regular exercise in their lives is flapping their lips.

I missed Chait's screed, but Givhan's piece made me spitting mad. I'm a pretty hip mother of an 11-year-old and an 8-year-old, and let them wear pretty much what they like (although my daughter is EXTREMELY modest in her tastes), but you can be darn sure I would not let them set foot in the White House without proper clothing. My son wore short suits like Jack Roberts when he was that age and we were attending weddings, Easter services, and other special events. It isn't old-fashioned, any more than it was old-fashioned for President Reagan to never set foot in the Oval Office without a suit and tie. It's called RESPECT FOR THE INSTITUTION, stupid!!! And only in New York City would a professional woman dressed in a pastel suit in the height of the summer heat be considered strange and looking like a "Necco wafer." Washington law firms are very conservative and women lawyers dress very conservatively, regardless of their political orientation.
I remember plenty of talk about the slobs in the Clinton White House, running around in shorts and flip-flops and sweatsuits and sneakers. Horrible. President Bush reinstituted a dress code for White House employees. It makes me proud every time I see a White House event and everyone is neatly dressed and well groomed. It certainly isn't creepy, for gosh sakes!
