'Pulsa denura' invoked against Sharon
Jerusalem Post ^ | July 26, 2005 | Yaakov Katz

Far-right activists instigated a pulsa denura - Aramaic for 'lashes of fire' - death curse against Prime Minister Ariel Sharon last Thursday night in an effort to thwart the upcoming disengagement plan.

The ceremony was held late Thursday night at the gravesite of Shlomo Ben-Yosef, a Betar member who was hanged by the British in 1938 for firing on an Arab bus in protest of numerous attacks by Arabs on Jewish targets.

Twenty married men, including rabbis and kabalists, participated in the ceremony. All 20, including Yosef Dayan - who instigated the same curse several months prior to the assassination of former prime minister Yitzhak Rabin - assembled at the gravesite, which is located near Safed.

Each man immersed himself in the mikve (ritual bath) before donning black garb and beginning to chant.

They had received permission to invoke the pulsa denura from a host of rabbis and kabalists, who said it was the appropriate time to resort to using the curse.

Far-right activist Michael Ben-Horin explained that the point of the curse was to exempt a human from having to kill Ariel Sharon, allowing "the angels of destructions" to do it instead.

Baruch Ben Yosef, a far-right activist who participated in the ceremony, told The Jerusalem Post that "The ten men prayed to god for him to rid us of the evil murderous dictator [Sharon].

Ben Yosef said that the gravesite was chosen because, "Shlomo was the antithesis of a Sharon."

"Ben Yosef gave his life for the Jewish people and refused to recognize the British government, while Sharon does everything for himself," Ben Yosef declared.

Attorney-General Menahem Mazuz has decided in the past not to launch criminal investigations into rabbis who have instigated the death curse.

Mazuz's decision was based on a previous court ruling in the matter of Avigdor Askin, in which it was decided that the pulsa denura curse ceremony does not constitute a criminal offense.

Twenty thousand plus protesting the withdrawl the other day, and now they'll be defined as terrorist equivalents by the press and some Freepers by the actions of twenty.

"It sounds more like VooDoo."

African animism and human sacrifice, all rolled into a peculiar symbolism derived from Catholic belief? Hardly.

I don't think he deserves to drop dead, I think he deserves for his government to fall. Same with Blair and every other government that sucks up to terrorists. Same with Bush, but I'm afraid we're stuck with him. We can marginalize and make him a lame duck though.

The press defines the entire Nation of Israel as Terrorist Equivalents.

I support the resistors. THEN I support Israel. I support the falling of the government of the disgraced traitor Sharon and his replacement with someone who is willing to stand up to the United States and fight the Palestinian garbage who would destroy the Homeland. This is ridiculous.

That takes a simple majority vote in the Knesset. Thus far it's not there.

I don't know what Sharon is up to, but I do know that the man has been a patriot and has spent virtually his entire life fighting, sometimes ruthlessly, for Israel. He began at age 14.

Whatever his plan, I am convinced it is for the good of Israel, perhaps just an opportunity to concentrate a bunch of terrorists and nuke them out of existence.

He is neither a coward nor an appeaser.

This is one tough old coot, and his people should unite behind him.

Wing nuts are forever wing nuts.

You seem to be an expert on wingnuts.

Let me ask you this: If you were an Israeli, just how would you feel about your president forking over land to the very people that have vowed to kill you?

I'm one disgusted Catholic commenting on this abomination.

Absolutely. I think that a casino in Gaza would make him and his cronies a lot of big money. That'll bring some unity; especially in his bank account.

Obviously he has a little more time. Benedict Arnold was the greatest hero of the American Revolution. He is only remembered for being a traitor. But he was a HUGE hero, bigger than Washington.

I go back and forth on Arik. Sometimes I think he's going to pull off a huge coup here. Other times I think that if he thinks he's going to acheive anything by giving up territory that Jews have bought with their blood he is mad.

Today I am tending toward mad.

Shin Bet doesn't have to discredit the ultra-nationalists. They do a pretty good job on their own.

Precisely. This is way outside the mainstream of Israeli thinking and even of Orthodox Jewish thinking. To wish Sharon dead... I don't even wish ill on Yossi Beilin or Yossi Sarid. I just wish them an early and enjoyable retirement outside of Israeli political life. I feel the same way about Benny Elon and Avigdor Lieberman. A nice, peaceful retirement.

I am an Israeli so I will answer this. It's their land, not ours. Over a million hostile Arabs live there. Prior to 1948 there was almost no Jewish population there at all. There had never been a significant Jewish population there through much of history. Yes, it is part of the promised land and we will have it when moshiach comes. For now, though, to keep 6,000 Jews isolated in the midst of so many Arabs simply does not make sense. We need secure borders.

Thank you. I wish more people knew what the Prime Minister has done for Israel over the years. He is doing what makes sense in strategic terms. He is ever the old General.

I read the PDF, thanks for the link. So, either there actually is someone who received oral instruction on how to perform this Pulsa D'Nora, or there is not, according to the author. This makes the following, from the original post, more interesting:

"All 20, including Yosef Dayan - who instigated the same curse several months prior to the assassination of former prime minister Yitzhak Rabin - assembled at the gravesite, which is located near Safed.'

Dayan - any connection to Moishe Dayan? If this claim, that Yosef Dayan "instigated" this Pulsa D'Nora months prior to the death of Yitzhak Rabin, is accurate, then accordingly he has been judged as righteous, else he would have brought death upon himself. Or, he could be lying. Or, the religion is false. One of the three. I'll reject the latter out of hand, and will say that if he is lying, he has deceived some very devout and outspoken people.

1Samuel 7:8 And the children of Israel said to Samuel, Cease NOT to cry unto the LORD our God for us, that HE WILL SAVE US out of the hand of the Philistines.

2Samuel 22:7 In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried to my God: and HE DID HEAR MY VOICE out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears.

. I'm not certain, but I'm about 99% sure that if you do something like this in the US towards the President, you get to have a chat with the Secret Service. I am certain that if this was Muslims, we'd be hearing all sorts of comments about the "religion of peace".

"To wish Sharon dead"

If the description in the PDF link is correct, to call this a death wish is simplistic. It's actually more of a plea for immediate judgment upon an individual viewed as a threat, a traitor. The consequence, if the individual doing the entreating is wrong, i e divine judgment finds the subject of Pulsa D'Nora to be righteous, then judgment befalls the plaintiff (for lack of a better word). Assuming one actually believes this, it is no minor undertaking, because if you're wrong, you yourself are dead.
