(Angus Reid Global Scan) More GOP supporters in the Sunshine State believe former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani would be a good presidential candidate, according to a poll by Strategic Vision. 28 per cent of respondents in Florida want Giuliani to be the Republican nominee in the 2008 election, a four per cent increase since June.
Current Florida governor Jeb Bush is second with 19 per cent, followed by Arizona senator John McCain with 17 per cent. Support is lower for former House of Representatives speaker Newt Gingrich, Tennessee senator Bill Frist, Virginia senator George Allen, Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum, Nebraska senator Chuck Hagel, and New York governor George Pataki.
In the 2004 election, Republican George W. Bush won Floridas 27 electoral votes with 52 per cent of all cast ballots. In 2000, weeks of recounts and court injunctions concluded in a 537-vote victory for Bush over Democrat Al Gore. Since 1972, the only Democrats to carry Florida in a presidential election are Jimmy Carter in 1976 and Bill Clinton in 1996.

Hagel's a percentage point higher than I expected.
LOL So is Wacki Pataki!
My choice is still an Allen/Giuliani ticket.
Interesting.
Third-party? Or Dem?
Dan
I don't see many conservatives on the list. Do you think the actual Republican field will be this "moderate"? I don't know that I can take another "compassionate conservative" in the WH. I am favorably disposed to Allen, but the others would be hard for me to hold my nose to vote for.
This poll doesn't surprise me considering the demographics of Florida. More and more folks down here speak with a New York New - Jersey accent.
Obviously month-to-month fluctations this far away mean zip, zilch, nada, but if you take an average it'll give a more solid baseline to measure trend/momentum in the popular consciousness.
They must've polled all the New York Republicans that move down here to die...........
Personally I don't like the list at all. I would say Guiliani is the best one on the list!
NOT THIS FLORIDIAN!!!
I personally would rather see Rudy run for Clinton's Senate seat in New York....not that he needs name recognition or anything, but we would be able to see how he can handle the 'Washington D.C.' crowd in action....
If he runs against Clinton, and I can vote....you bet I'll vote for Rudy...I'd vote for anyone against Clinton....Keep her AWAY from the White House!!!!!
Sounds about right.
I totally agree. And if its a choice between him and McCAin I will vote for Rudy!

Let Freedom Ring,
It's disappointing to look at a list of eleven prospectives and have a reaction of "No" and "HELL NO!" to the top seven.
NIMBY, Giuliani!
I like Rudi's background, not another Country Club "R"...
The conservative field (some are debatable, but to each his own) looks like:
Brownback, Frist, Allen, Huckabee, maybe Pawlenty.
Personally I don't think much of Huckabee's chances but I wouldn't have a problem supporting any of them in the general election, or in a 1-on-1 race with Rudy/McCain in the primary.
