Mississippi Guard captures more than 100 insurgents in Iraq By Holbrook Mohr Associated Press July 26, 2005
JACKSON, Miss. - A group of Mississippi Army National Guard soldiers in Iraq is being credited with the capture of more than 100 suspected insurgents in raids that also yielded explosives, rockets and ammunition, the Department of Defense says.
The soldiers from the 150th Engineer Battalion, 155th Brigade Combat Team captured the insurgents during sweeps last week near Owesat, Iraq, just south of Baghdad, according to a news release from Maj. Erby Montgomery, a public affairs officer for the 155th.
Montgomery said the soldiers also seized a weapons cache that included 186 mortar rounds, 65 hand grenades, 500 pounds of explosives, rocket-propelled grenades and other weapons and ammunition.
"Some from brigade have said that this was one of the single biggest, if not the biggest, raids in Iraq," Sgt. 1st Class Kevin Kelly said in an e-mail from Iraq. "Over 100 insurgents in one single mission wasn't that bad ... and the boys from Mississippi did it."
Kelly said no soldiers were wounded during the operations, even though a five-ton armored vehicle was disabled by a roadside bomb. He praised the teamwork among the soldiers from several different companies that make up the 155th.
"Everyone was involved in this mission and they did an outstanding job," Kelly said.
The 155th Brigade Combat Team is made up of 3,500 Mississippi Guard soldiers from 49 communities in the state and others from throughout the country. The 150th Engineer Battalion, which is part of the 155th Brigade Combat Team, is headquartered in Meridian, with companies out of Lucedale, Carthage and Okolona. The soldiers are assigned to the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force.
The 155th trained at Camp Shelby south of Hattiesburg with a month of desert warfare training at Fort Irwin in California's Mojave Desert before being deployed to Iraq in January.
Thirteen members of the 155th have died during the deployment.
Hooray!
My hat is off to these brave Soldiers from Mississippi.
Kickin' Jihadi butt to make it safe for the Iraqis
and the folks back home.
We appreciate it and pray for their safe return.

As far as I know Sou. Miss doesn't have anything to say.
I'll refrain from my normal cheer due to the subject of the thread. I grew up basically next door to the ANG in Jackson. Helicopters on Saturday morning are what I remember most. And they had a "get rid of old junk" day once, and my brothers came home with lots of neat stuff. (bullets and things that boys just love)
Way to go MS ANG!
I'll refrain from my normal cheer due to the subject of the thread.
A State fan with Class. Now that's unusual :>)
Way to go Mississippi.
I'd hardly call me a State FAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now don't get me started. I'm a Croom fan, and I'll cheer for State when they aren't playing Alabama. I always cheer for the SEC. And I cheer for Alabama, then Mississippi teams, then Vandy (haha), then Auburn (imagine that!).
My statement would apply to any of those :>)
Then YOU're a State fan, too! :)
Then YOU're a State fan, too! :)
I am an OM fan and whoever is playing State.
That is really sad. lol
"A State fan with Class. Now that's unusual :>)"
Hey, I resemble that remark! Actually, several of my cousins broke with family tradition and went to Ole Miss. We still have enough class to let them attend family reunions in spite of their mistake! We let them sit at the same table with us! We're just glad they didn't go to LSU!:>)
Bill you seem to be very knowledgeable about
the more important things about Ms. such as OM V State.
What is your MS background? Just wondering
That is really sad. lo
SAD ......... but true!!:>)
WKB,
I sent you a private reply about my heritage.
