Well, that's my point: that is the only point in time HE could have seen them; they weren't in our possession until eight months until after HE got back.
So he could have only seen them when 1) they were being forged, or 2) "Natasha" showed him TOP SECRET documents after they came into our possession.

How about this scenario. France planted them with the Italians. But in later discussions with the Americans realized the Italians only forwarded reports of the documents. This was unsatisfactory for the set-up. The French needed to get the actual documents in American hands, so they used an Italian reporter and had her deliver them to American Embassy in Italy.

Perhaps he saw them during the Senate hearings or Jane Bond showed them to him?...Somebody showed secret documents to him?
