Not today, please.
A good safety inspection would never had permitted setting up tents under overhead wires. It is strange but looking around of hazards comes with our nature, looking up rarely does. My condolences. (Eagle Scout and Safety Professional.)
On another thread - A vehicle hit an electic pole, which fell onto the tent. The leaders were all from Alaska.
Should read - which caused the wires to fall on the tent.
I think that linking the ACLU and gay bashing is highly inappropriate in this case. You need to take a deep breath and point that vitriol in a more useful direction. Like helping OJ find the real killer or identifying the gunman on the grassy knoll. I oppose the ACLU and the gay agenda too but this Jamboree thing is neither the time nor the place. Get a grip!
What did you learn? I was told they are not allowed to have their cells at the base. My son's is turned off.
I just got this email from my son's leader a few minutes ago. it reads:
Dear Parents and friends:
First of all, everyone in the Rio Grande Council contingent is safe.
By now you have probably heard the news of the fatalities at the Jamboree today from some source or other. JW just called me and this is what they know.
Earlier today, at the Jamboree, a Scoutmaster had a heart attack and died.
In an unrelated event later, 4 Scouts were using metal poles to erect some sort of gateway or exhibit when the poles fell into an electrical line. All 4 Scouts were killed in the accident.
JW wants you all to know that nobody in our Troops, and nobody in any adjacent Troops have been involved in anyway.
Yours in Scouting,
From Fox news, a picture showing the erection of a large tent with a metal center pole easily high enough to reach HV wires on the overhead electric poles. My guess is that they touched the wire. (from the picture) when sparks fly a vehicle could have brought down the pole, or the wires could have burned through and fell. The trouble with accidents like this is the first stories are often later recanted as the facts fall into place. I take them all with a grain of salt at this point.

JAMBOREE: Three men from Anchorage, one former Alaskan are electrocuted.
God bless these men.
My heritage is from the Boy Scouts.
My dad and uncle were Eagle Scouts, two
of only a few American Indians to go to
the international jamboree in London in the
1930's or so.
He told me stories about how, when the
German Boy Scouts entered the stadium,
the began to goose step. Not everyone
understood what that meant, yet.
There were calls about the Germans needing.
powder for their pants because they
all had heat rash. Dad said a few joked
about the Germans needing some kind of home-grown
remedy for hemmrhoids.
My dad and uncle were well treated by their adult
leaders in a day when Indian people were often
looked down upon and ridiculed.
These men deserve our thanks and their families
our prayers.

Yes, they do. And your dad and uncle would be proud.

I agree.
