Explosives inside watermelons found at Kuwait-Iraq border

Kuwaiti border security men on Sunday foiled an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of explosives into Kuwait, the Arab Times reported Monday.

According to the daily, two trucks carrying watermelons crossed the Kuwaiti border from Iraq and were about to get into the country when one security inspector saw cracks in a watermelon. He opened it and found explosives.

The trucks were thoroughly searched and a large quantity of explosives was found hidden inside the watermelons. The two drivers were referred to the State Security Department for further investigations to find out the partners of these criminals.

No details were immediately available regarding the watermelons' destination or the affiliation of the drivers to any militant group, said the daily.

But the paper added that the incident points to first tangible signs that militants may be plotting strikes in Kuwait, and fears of terror strikes in Kuwait set thousands of foreigners on edge.

Kuwait is home to 25,000 US soldiers stationed at camps on the outskirts of Kuwait City and 12,000 American civilians as well as thousands of other westerners including Australians, British and French citizens.

I am certain the Senators Kennedy and other high profile democrats will contact the State Department to make sure that these individuals are treated with proper respect to their humanitarian rights. After all it is only infidels, such as the USA that would do evil things such a strip people naked and put panties on their heads in an attempt to interrogate terrorists.(/sarcasm)

Actually, I expect these poor truck drivers are likely to die while under custody. Kuwait is such a staunch supporter of humanitarian rights.

Note that this is the Kuwaiti State Security Department... these jokers are going to talk. Period.
Any bets on how long 'til these two wish they were at Club Gitmo instead of whatever hell-hole they will land in outside Kuwait City?

I imagine those drivers had no clue the melons were loaded with explosives. The very nature of decentralized terror organizations is that the various functionaries don't know the other parts of the organization/plan. In a case like this, it would make sense to hire guys who knew little more than their orders to transport melons from pt. A to pt. B. Why give valuable information to the guys most likely to be caught?

Now see, that's just a shame. All that wasted watermelon. I think the Kuwait people should demand that those melons be returned to Iraq, and used in the capacity they were intended.

A Nice little present from the people the Iraqis tried to take over. :)
