These are very strong, and in recent years, untypical,phrases coming from Vatican pronouncements. I perosnally have not seen statements like this since the days of the anathemas of Vatican I in 1870.

Just kidding. Good remarks from the Pope. Obviously the Vatican has always known about the true nature of Islam. But it's refreshing to see such public statement. While John Paul II was right to reach out and be diplomatic, Islamic leaders have not done the same.

In truth, I misread the original modified thread title. It wasn't the correct title but it also didn't say what I thought it did.

When asked by journalists whether Islam could be thought of as a religion of peace, the pope said, "I would not like to use big words to apply generic labels."

Islam "certainly contains elements that can favor peace; it also has other elements; we must always seek the best elements," he said.

Praise God! Its about time we cut the P.C. crap and got to the chase.
