INDIANAPOLIS -- A prank may have cost a boy his life on Indianapolis' west side.
A group of four juveniles was throwing eggs at cars in the 7400 block of Rockville Road about 11 p.m. Sunday, according to police.
Marion County sheriff's deputies said after they hit one motorist in the face, the man got out and opened fire, shooting one 15-year-old boy in the leg and another 17-year-old boy in the stomach.
Police said the man who called them to report the egg-throwing may have been the same man involved in the shootings.
"The victim that was shot with the non-life-threatening injuries -- he actually went to a residence and called us -- called the sheriff's department," Marion County sheriff's Sgt. Michael DeHart said. "The other two were unaccounted for at the that time. They later regrouped at some location, became worried about the fourth member they had not heard from, and returned back to the site of the shooting and found him in the bushes."
The boy was dead when his friends found him. Investigators are still looking for the shooter.
He's described as a white male in his 30s, 6 feet tall. He was driving a maroon or red late 80s Ford full size pickup truck.
Well, the next time a kid asks his parents "why" when told not to egg cars, here's a really good reason. People have lost a good deal of their humanity, and it's just not safe to pull "childish pranks."
The guy was a bit extreme. This kids were bad, and lets face it, throwing things at moving cars has caused deaths, so its not an innocent prank, but shooting at them is just nuts...
They tried to kill him.
Sorry, I can't muster any sympathy here....that is a VERY dangerous stunt to pull on the driver of a car in DAYLIGHT, much more so at 11PM
I'd put the guy in jail or send him to the gallows in a heartbeat. But I have ZERO sympathy for the little brats and their families. The kids knew better and the families have an obligation to teach their children better discipline.
I don't want to be the kids who toilet paper his trees or soap his windows either.
My Mother would have kicked our butts if we had thrown her eggs - we threw overly ripe apricots instead. How sad that a stupid prank will get you killed.
Egg throwing is only for October 31st.
Egg throwing is not for anything. Go shoot targets with a BB gun or something. Respect property.
I don't feel sorry for the "kids" one bit. This is a rough area of town. Hmmm....let's see, I'm a 15 year old, and I'm up to no good, and it's 11pm??? Where are the parents?
Once I was in a supermarket parking lot.....a supermarket parking lot!!!...and rounded a corner in said parking lot to go to Wendy's--which was part of the supermarket parking lot!!--...and there was a STOP sign I had never noticed before...and I rolled a couple feet through it and a car was rounding the turn opposite me, going through 'drive-through' and I stopped with plenty of time not to hit him.....plenty of time and a good amount of space...
..but this guy jumps on his brakes!!....gets out of the car, and starts yelling/screaming obscenities at me and then walks over to my car....
...I kept the windows up and the door locked...and he scared me to pieces.
Finally he gets in his car and pulls away.
One thing that he yelled was....he had a kid in the car and he could have wrecked it.
Now, mind you, I didn't intentionally run that 'Stop' sign and I didn't hit him....
..but he was mad enough because it might have happened , I think it wouldn't have taken much for him to smash my windshield and throttle me!
Like a said...a bizarro world....
..and you're right....innocent folks could get hurt, killed....babies, children....if there had been a wreck with this egg throwing incident.
Besides, teenagers are not little kids....they're practically adults and should have had better things to do with their time.
I think it criminal to throw anything at a moving car......and those doing it should be held accountable.
about 10 years ago there was a group of kids on an overpass in Cobb county throwing eggs at cars. Not getting the proper response, they decided that rocks would be better, and then decided that a cinder block would be better still. They killed a woman when the cinderblock came through the windshield - she was DOA when her husband got her to the hospital. The actual murderer got a couple of years, and the other were given a lot lesser punishment.
Two weeks ago a group of youths threw rocks and fired bottle rockets at a truck driver on Bankhead highway (or whatever black political crook it's named for now). One went off in his face causing him to lose control of his truck and blowing out his eye. They then hauled him from the truck and beat him some more with bricks and robbed him.
My personal opinion is that these youts should be taken out an shot, so I can't agree that throwing things at moving vehices is a harmless prank.
I look at it this way - say I'm carrying a firearm and I'm walking along the street, and a guy wearing just flip-flops and a speedo throws a huge brick at my head. It narrowly misses me - if he had connected, by brains would be scattered across the pavement.
I know by his attire that he has no other weapon and can do me no immediate harm.
In my existing mental state, the urge to drop him would be pretty hard to control. It's wrong to shoot, but it's extenuated.
Perhaps he was just joking around, his friends put him up to it to get a rise out of me. Whatever.
I should not shoot him since the threat has passed, but he has really goaded me into doing so.
Apart from the fact that we don't know if this guy stopped to have words with them and they threatened him and other extenuating circumstances, this guy reacted in an unacceptable way.
But a seventeen year old should know better than to throw eggs at moving cars. A seventeen year old knows that throwing an egg at a moving car can result in people being killed. he's not eight years old - he's probably driven a car himself and knows how easily a driver can become fatally distracted.
What we have here is a short-fused hardcase and a careless idiot.
This guy's a murderer. The kids were stupid and wrong to throw eggs, but didn't deserve getting shot for their efforts.

Segment #1 - Benjamin Mckenzie gets his car egged by a kid.
I remember a lady in my apartment building (she didn't have any kids) coming home from a long weekend and cleaning her door where kids pelted her door with eggs. Messy situation especially because the eggs were dried by the time she started cleaning. Malicious kids!
That's a little over the top...just as shooting at them was. A guy that can't control himself better than that shouldn't be allowed to carry a fire arm
