DENVER (AP) - Some military veterans and law enforcement officials are angry about a Web site promoting Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn's comedy "Wedding Crashers."
To win the affections of attractive bridesmaids in the movie, two fun-loving partiers pretend to be Purple Heart recipients.
New Line Cinema's movie Web site includes a fake, paper Purple Heart to cut out, with the spoof: "Carrying a Purple Heart in your jacket guarantees you attention, admiration and plenty of free booze."
"I challenge the producer of that movie to go to Walter Reed Hospital and walk through the ward and see if he still wants to print out a fake Purple Heart," said Thomas Cottone, Jr., a special agent with the FBI who enforces a federal law that prohibits wearing, manufacturing, buying, selling or trading a Medal of Honor.
"Talk to some of these people who don't have legs anymore and see how funny they think that movie is."
New Line Cinema, which produced the movie, did not return a phone message.
A bill introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives Friday would expand federal law to allow prosecution of anyone who falsely claims to have earned a military medal or a Purple Heart.
"Here's an example of Hollywood imitating life. Hopefully it brings to the American conscience that this is what is happening," said Doug Sterner, a Vietnam veteran who runs a Web site dedicated to Medal of Honor recipients.
I sure did. Thanks.
This will be added to the list.
There would also be the wise, all-knowing Buddhist monk who sets everyone straight. Right, grasshopper?
Harhar, Sleazywood is such a load, innit?
The movie does not denigrate purple heart "winners." (I have two, and did not "win" either.)
The movie denegrates people who falsely claim to have earned a Purple Heart.
There is a huge difference.
LOL!
Vince Vaughn is so ffing funny.
"We shared a moment, Todd"
I didn't know this was in the movie. If it is for the purpose of bringing to the attention of everyone, that these guys are s-bags that's one thing, if it is in the order of other scatological humor that seems to permeate SNL and other similare comedies then I'll not see this movie.
Hollyweird just does not get it. They are moral relativists in Hollyweird. They simply are disconnected from reality. They hate Conservatives, Christians, Family oriented folks... unless you define a family as two Lesbians and their cats. These are the same knuckleheads who brought you "Will and Grace", "Desperate Housewives", "Sex In The City", and assorted other cultural trash. They also hate the military unless they are made out to be alcohol swilling buffoons like in "Stripes" or "Mash". Every War is immoral, the Military is evil and the Anti-American mindset is being truly enlightened.
There are a few exceptions lately "Tears of The Sun", "Black hawk Down", etc. But very few. And the MSM ignores assults on the families of our Veterans who are killed in combat. Like the one whose funeral was crashed by the Lt. Governor in PA. What a piece of trash she is.
In this movie the sleazeball is a rich WASP uber lib bully.
"That painting was a gift. I'm keeping it."

It was to show that the guys are scumbags (who are later redeemed and who renouce their preying upon of women as scummy).
It is a South Parkian conservative movie --- in short, hypocrits beware.
No doubt there is.
So, I guess you can't understand why some of the military are protesting this movie. Right?
He was for it before he was against it!
Maybe not intentionally, but it served as one. Using "fake" Purple Hearts to lend credibility to a failing Presidential Campaign is even worse than using them to get free drinks.
"Wedding Crashers" does slam limousine liberals and has a surprising and fairly powerful anti-libertine message. I can't imagine a lot of Hollywood figures going to see the film without realizing that their lifestyles are being mocked. ;)
How was the John McCain cameo?
Maybe we should see this movie.
..."Not to mention the midnight rape"...

Well put.
It shows them in a downward spiral until they hit rock-bottom and then try to clean up their act.
One of the elements in that downward spiral is to sport fake military decorations, make up stories about deceased loved ones, etc.
False Purple Heart winners are scumbags, or do you think otherwise?
The bad-guy in this movie is a limo-liberal.
The movie shows that mindless, empty, sex has consequences and is bad, and no way to spend one's life.
A family's infedilitous (sp?) marriage results in 2/3 of the kids being mal-adjusted.
A good marriage is ultimately shown to be an ideal situation.
The lone homosexual is complete freakjob.
Two losers repent of their empty lives --- one after confessing to a priest, no less.
These are hardly anti-conservative, anti-Christian, themes.
He's in it for about 2 seconds, standing next to James Carville.
