Firefighters drain a lake, Tuesday, July 26, 2005, in Oranjestad, Aruba searching for Alabama teenager, Natalee Holloway, who vanished nearly two months ago while vacationing in the island. Edwin Comemencia, a police spokesman, confirmed that the draining of the lake across from the Marriott Hotel was part of the investigation into Holloway's disappearance but would not comment further. The draining was expected to take up to 24 hours. (AP Photo/Pedro Famous Diaz)

(Just because you did not see it or read it, that does not mean it did or did not happen.)

Methane gas detector also will be used per Tim Miller of Equusearch who is now back in Aruba. Tim said prior to when they wanted to search this area they were told that there was no place to move the water which he knew was untrue. Tim said that there was water in the pond on 5/30. He said the only way to search the pond is by draining it due to all the debris.

FYI
I am starting to think
this picture is "not" the same mass of water they are now searching.
If it is the same mass of water in the picture above it would have to be west of the 2nd Marriott (up the beach towards the California Lighthouse) because the ocean looks way too close for this to be in front (north) of the Marriott.
The Marriott in this picture
is the first Marriott built (east), they have since built the second Marriott (the club one) to the left (west) of the one in this picture. You can see there is a road on the left (west) of the Marriott. The new Marriott would be in this sandy area across this road. Here is the biggest picture I could find that shows both Marriotts.
