FEDS SET TO $LAP REV. AL ON '04 BID ($100K matching funds snafu--Sharpton won't give FEC documents)
NY POST ^ | July 25, 2005 | STEFAN C. FRIEDMAN

As the Rev. Al Sharpton continues to dangle his sought-after endorsement in the mayoral race to maximize his influence, federal regulators are stepping up their own campaign to get information about his messy political finances.

For the sixth time in the last 18 months, Sharpton has flouted a demand from the Federal Election Commission that he turn over financial documents related to his run for the White House last year.

In a letter to Sharpton last week, FEC officials threatened him with "civil money penalties, an audit or legal enforcement action" if he doesn't cough up the paperwork from his failed presidential bid.

For more than a year, the FEC has been looking to recover $100,000 in matching funds given to Sharpton that were later voided when he violated a regulation barring candidates from spending more than $50,000 on their own campaigns.

Al knows how to play the game. He's seen the Master, Jesse J., dance around regulations for 30+ years. No sweat.

They're not gonna get Fat Al. He's politically untouchable.

Actually, he isn't untouchable. He's a crook in a blue city in a blue state. He is irrelevant. The people that support him will never vote any other way. You put him in jail, in three months no one will care.

And here is the really weird thing about it:

Al Sharkton (spelling intentional) was the most honest of the Dem. candidates running in 2004!!

Al's run for Pres was a scam. Al's always been in the game for the dough. Go back through the early days in NYC. There is a trail of unpaid bills, unpaid rent and missing funds at every turn.
If a Republican did the same thing he'd be in jail.

Oh yeah, Al's a rogue, alright.

I think he attained status only b/c Jesse Jackson was so annoying, besides being caught with his pants down, fathering a child with an aide.

Al came in handy when they needed a surrogate to argue the race issues.

If and when Al's love child (children?) surfaces, and his replacement takes center stage, we will have to put up with him.

As much as I enjoy watching Rev. Al get slapped around, this is wrong. I oppose the regulation, so I oppose this application of the regulation. It is none of the FEC's business where Rev. Al gets the money or what he spends it on. Actually, the FEC should not have any business at all.

Case in point, Marion Barry getting caught smoking crack in a hotel room with a prostitute. And then still getting re-elected to the mayor's office. Scum doesn't care what other scum does.

In fact, to some scum, it makes them feel better by comparison.

No one too corrupt as far as Mayor Blooming-idiot is concerned. He'll gladly accept Sharpton's endorsement.

..except, he was spending the 100K, giving to him by the taxpayers' $$$$ (through that stupid '76 Election Finance program.) ...if he take the $$$$, he should @ least file the paperwork.
