The tars alone will destroy your lungs ability to cleanse themselves. The nicotine is a vasodilator that can interfere with you body's circulatory system. Also, I met lots of people when my wife was going through chemo who were dying of lung cancer for which there is no cure. Not one of them had not smoked for years. In the 7 years she was treated for breast cancer we never met a non-smoker who had contracted lung cancer. It's possible but rare. Almost all lung cancer patients are smokers. If you need more evidence, smoke for 20-30 years and report back.
Reporting back now, Sergeant. I've smoked for 42 years and intend to die at the hands of a jealous significant other when I'm 1/2 second slow climbing over the back fence carrying my underwear.
I quit 20 years ago. All's fine so far.
Just now read your profile page. Sorry for the flippant comment(although I still mean it). I empathize with your loss and hope you have found or will find the strenth to carry on. No offense intended.

Its not that simple - recent evidence proves that genetic precursors are more predictive.
In my and my wife's family, the smokers far outlived the non smokers. But then again the smokers were moderate ones - far less than a pack a day.
Whoa, my 72 year old aunt is a walking zombie??? She never told me that 7 years ago her lung cancer killed her......She doesn't seem evil so I guess I'll leave the stakes at home when next I visit Florida.
The lung cancer rate of survival is incredibly higher than you may think!

Ah well,if it isn't one thing,it's another,it's always somethin'-----in other words the ones that don't die of lung cancer will die of something else, probably another type of cancer.------seems like a no brainer to me.
