Immigration Rising on Bush's To-Do List The White House wants to build a coalition to court Latinos and marginalize hard-liners. By Peter Wallsten and Nicole Gaouette, Times Staff Writers WASHINGTON — Worried that the tone of the immigration debate is pushing Latinos away from the Republican Party, the White House is working with political strategists to create a broad coalition of business groups and immigrant advocates to back a plan President Bush could promote in Congress and to minority voters in the 2006 elections.

If they are going to hire them then the employers need to be responsible for all their medical, educational and other needs and not pass those costs onto the American taxpayers.

You are correct.

I have been saying all along that Corporate America is using the government and the American taxpayer to supply them with cheap labor and to pick up the cost for the benefits package for them.

The drug companies are using the government to push and their products through Medicaid [it's not the elderly I'm talking about]and the schools.

The insurance companies are using the state governments and their troopers to force people to buy their insurance.

They charge high premiums then when a disaster such as a hurricane strikes they want the taxpayer to bail them out.

Then you have the federal bailouts and subsidies for the banking industry [savings and loan scandals],Wall Street [Junk Mexican Bonds], the airlines, Amtrak, housing industry, aerospace industry, education industry[ schools colleges, universities],construction industry [Brown & Root,Lydon Johnson's,Haliburton], oil and energy industry, agriculture industry,Trial Lawyers, State Governments and even private individuals such as the Hunt's silver debacle and the list goes on.

I'm willing to to bet that in 60% of the decent paying jobs in this country the employees either get their paycheck directly from the federal government or the company or entity that pays them depends on the federal government for their survival.

Where our jobs and workers are concerned we have become almost as dependent on the federal government as the workers and businesses of the former Soviet Union where.

What the hell happened to the Private Free Enterprise system?

This is why we have a two trillion dollar and growing budget and the Federal Government in every aspect of our lives .

If any serious talk of welfare and/or personal freedom takes place in this country it's first subject should be on getting Corporate America off the federal dole and the Washington chiefs and their tribe back on the reservation .

"McCain-Kennedy will never get a vote"

Correction: McCain-Kennedy will get a vote only if everything else fails.

Hastert/Sensenbrenner and Frist/Cornyn will bottle it up but if they can't get their bill passed, they will have to let it out.

As for raising the level of legal immigration to entice some democrats to switch, Bush made that offer in 04. In a the media.

The dems are in the driver's seat. They have made their compromise with the pubs already. It would not hurt them if reform fails to pass.

No doubt, a few dems will defect, but mainly the republicans will have to unify.

That is why Cornyn-Kyl has included significant law enforcement and DeLay is proposing law enforcement before guest workers. Their only chance is entice Imiigration Caucus members to abandon Tancredo.

Brilliant. This is why women and other simpering idiots should not vote.

Lately, I've been noticing that Tancredo may infact be coming around. Granted, his rhetoric on other issues is still inflamatory, but he now seems to be in the same neighborhood as DeLay, Kyl, and Cornyn, on immigration reform. Last week, I believe, he even proposed a temporary guest worker program. His main issue is that there must be serious enforcement measures before any guest worker program begins, and DeLay seems to agree with him. I have a feeling that when push comes to shove, he will sign on with Kyl and Cornyn, and DeLay will round up enough votes. Remember, Tancredo has gotten himself in hot water lately, and if he wants to be re-elected he better start mending fences with DeLay. Also, come election time, he will have to show that he actually accomplished something, so it is in his best interest to support the Kyl/Cornyn Bill.

It is a good sign that Tancredo realizes he needs to stand with DeLay, Kyl, and Cornyn on this one. He actually does bring votes with him too.

Only a simpering idiot would say women shouldn't vote.

Lets use a little logic.

Some say that Tancredo really wants to be president. I say that all he wants to do is run for president and raise money.

Either way, if he compromises, he is a sell-out and loses all his support/donors.

I'm not sure he really wants to run for Pres. Either way, this latest comment about Islam will probably make even a potential run impossible.

Why does the President keep saying that Americans of Hispanic origin are addicted to law breaking? That we must accept the law breakers as "guests" lest we offend Americans of Hispanic origin?

But I say again. There is more to this than government subsidized "cheap" labor and votes.

Remittances from migrant labor is just as important as the free tradin' transfer of technology, wealth, and jobs to developing countries. Both are critical to "raising boats" and everyone in Washington believes that that is the primary road to world peace.

Washington has committed the U.S. to "raising everyone else's boat." Citizens and sovereignty be damned.

If they can't hear us now they ain't listening. They do not want to listen. They have more important tasks.

Get use to it or get new political parties.

Nov., 2006, that's our "drop dead" date.

Between open borders and the scam free trade deals I don't know what's worse. We'll probably never find out since we're getting both of those unwanted policies shoved down our throats at the same time.

I suppose semantically your argument is correct. The result is the same either way. I keep hearing people hope that Bush will ring true to the people who put him in office, but it seems that he has many other interests to serve besides the voters. What's even more scary is that Bush's globalist propaganda machine has very effectively demonized other conservative viewpoints, much like the hypocritical liberal machine has secured absured candidates like Gore or Kerry. In the end, no one acts on principle. God help this admin. though if an attack happens that can be traced back to illegal border crossing.

Yup one big happy North American family. And unlike those in Europe we don't get to vote on the idea.

RE: "unlike those in Europe we don't get to vote on the idea."

I think that we do get to vote on it -- if only some of the patriots in the Minutemen Project will search out a few hundred races around the country we'll get to vote on it in Nov., 2006.

Next year's congressional election is going to be an important one. If we can get more real conservatives in there we'll have a serious chance of slowing down the open borders, globalist train.

If the White House sells us out like this, then we deserve to be called the party of Corporate America.

Sorry, too late. The Bush administration is already owned lock, stock and barrel by globalist corporations and the RNC is in hock up its collective eyebrows to the corporate entities. Bush and the RNC only care about corporation issues. They certainly don't care about the common American working class man or woman any more.

Look, we all complain about the farmers and corporations that hire illegals because they are cheap labor...stop illegals from coming into the country and force the inmates to go out and work in the fields for the cheap labor and have it put into a savings account for when they get out of prison.
