When Kimberly Teplitzky and Geoff Aung attended the College Republican National Convention in Arlington, Va., last month, they avoided talking about political issues with their fellow conventioneers.
"We didn't want to scare them away," Teplitzky said.
Teplitzky and Aung who voted for Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.) in the 2004 presidential election are interns at Campus Progress, a new division of the Center for American Progress, a liberal Washington think tank. They were, to say the least, out of place at the GOP event.
"We didn't want to give ourselves away right away," Teplitzky said. "But when they asked, we told them who we were."
The point of going to the convention, she said, was to "see what they are doing, hear what they are saying and to find out what their priorities are."
In short, the two were there to learn from the successes of their political opposites.
Nearly invisible on college campuses a generation ago, conservatives have made a concerted effort over the last three decades to groom students as future political leaders with considerable success.
Now, liberals have started taking pages from that playbook; Campus Progress was formed in February to, as its website says, "counter the growing influence of right-wing groups" on college campuses.

Though Campus Progress admires the conservatives' success, "we don't want to emulate everything they do," Halperin said. "We'll take things that are effective."

Also, as far as this goes:
" Keisha Senter, speakers bureau coordinator for Campus Progress, said that progressive student groups didn't always have the money or connections to bring leading progressive speakers to their campuses..."
This is never an issue for them. The administration has very deep pockets for funding far-left speakers. On the other hand the youung conservatives have to foot the bill for the likes of an Ann Coulter.
Then again, imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. Obviously our side is doing something VERY well.
DUH! Liberals will never understand.
It's not the Republicans methods - it's their message.
Unless they've seen the light and become Conservatives, they haven't learned anything. It went right over their heads.
Very big with the amoral, bar suspended, impeached, crime coddling, military loathing, defense secret peddling apologist crowd!

Though Campus Progress admires the conservatives' success, "we don't want to emulate everything they do," Halperin said. "We'll take things that are effective."
In other words, they didn't learn a thing...
The vile, decrepit lifestyle of your average Leftist puts them at a natural disadvantage in some ways. But they do have the advantage of being shameless obnoxious loud-mouths who aren't embarrassed to cause a scene and be appeased with political favors, if only to make them shut-up for two seconds.
The Leftist novel "Dog Soldiers" details the inate problem that they face: that their highest ideals are identified by a lack of lifestyle discipline or personal responsibility. The hippies were set to take over the country in the 1970s, but they crashed-and-burned thanks to their own greed for cash and a definitive move into hard drugs like heroin.
What the Left needs to succeed are hacks like Howard Dean: elite, psychotic liberals who keep their own lives clean and successful, yet befriend and exploit the pathetic grass-root losers of their party who they call "democrats".

Besides the homogeneity of Christianly provocative moral messaging, the right has great cross-issue unity that is hard to beat for pure political power and leverage. The Leadership Institute is trying to encourage students to start other conservative groups on campus such as right to life or gun groups, but without saying (and sometime with saying) are encouraging these simply as extensions of CR. This will only increase their power by attracting more students who especially interested in just single issues, but ultimately throw them into the larger conservative movement.

Declaring Independence From Dirty Energy
This year's Energy Independence Day may not have had fireworks, but it did cause a bang. Youth in 281 cities across North America staged actions demanding a break from dependence on fossil fuels. And this, they say, is just the beginning.

"In 1776, the Forefathers of America came together to declare independence from Britain," said Kim Teplitzky, an organizer of the Philadelphia event. "218 years later, we need modern day politicians to show similar courage, and to lead our country away from its dangerous addiction to dirty energy."
I wonder how she will travel abroad? Will she use DIRTY ENERGY?!
Campus Progress Sudan Action Day
By SocialCapital - Jul 11th, 2005 at 8:09 pm EDT
On July 14 students from across the country will be converging on the Hill to meet with their Representatives and Senators asking them to support critical legislation addressing the genocide happening in Darfur, Sudan as part of an Action Day sponsored by Genocide Intervention Fund and Campus Progress. The day starts with training and issue briefing to educate a broad base of students about the tragedy where 400,000 people have already died, 2 million have been displaced and hundreds more continue to be killed everyday. Then, we will be urging our Representatives to support newly introduced legislation that would address the situation and promise a greater response from the U.S. If you re interested in taking part, e-mail Kim Teplitzky at kteplitzky@americanprogress.org.

If you can t make it to the Hill, check out www.BeAWitness.org to e-mail the networks and learn more about the abhorrent job they ve done covering real news.

Actually, Kim, what we need is someone who can both organize meetings
(space, time), and send out the announcement. Someone other than just me,
because sometimes I'm busy, sick, etc.
We can still use the space here in Center City at 1800 JFK 5th Fl.
(Solutions For Progress - my employer). Or whereever, doesn't matter to
me, but if we were to change locations, we should put it to the list first.
Up for it?
Earlier this summer we had a Steering Committee, but then everyone in the
steering committee couldn't do it anymore, except for me. So here we
are. I'd very much like to revive the steering committee.
I hope you don't mind, I cc'ed the list on this as well.
