Peking Duck, The Horse's Mouth, and Angry Chinese Blogger may have some serious following now, if they haven't yet, thanks to the publicity The China Daily gave them.

I think the root of all these problem is that China already conducts itself as if it were a junior superpower. They want to be in a position to dictate the fate of other countries as Chinese empires used to.

Some foreigners go to China and find out the situations on the ground level. It may give them some pause when it dawned on them that the country which they found out to be with so many problems tries to be in a driver seat of world politics. It is not an inspiring situation. Such perception expresses itself in many different ways. Some expressions are obviously less than pleasant. I think that is what is happening.

Have you ever been to China?
Have you been around a lot of Chinese (U.S., Singapore)?

I found the humor, well, humorous. Lol.

One thing you CAN believe, they say equally NASSSSTY things about the round-eye white devils. (That would be us.)

Hmm...it is my experience that the comments/observations being quoted are quite accurate.

Also the 2 of the 3 blogs mentioned are just too liberal wacko for my enjoyment. The last thing I need to read is another Brit/Canadian/Aussie moaning on about how the evil USA and Pres Bush only want to control the world.

Or whine about schools wanting "American accent english teachers" and why don't the school owner's "see the folly of this." Nevermind that the school owners are merely catering to the desires of their clientel - the parents of the children.

I tend to have a rather low opine of the expat "english teachers" I have come across. A few are talented and caring professionals. But the bulk are silly little college libs who make twice what the native teachers make and haven't the common sense to realize that teaching is a profession. One of high regard in the Chinese hierarchy. These yokels are looked at with great disdain for their antics.

...ok, ok...rant off.

That Peking Duck guy is a leftist creep. He doesn't deserve to be mentioned with the others. His blog is graphically beautiful but he is one of the biggest leftist Bush-haters out there. He's a 'chimpy bushitler' type leftist, the lunatic fringe. I don't like him.

Many of the criticisms raised in these English-language China b[l]og sites are valid, for sure, but the problem with most of them is that they seriously lack in fairness and balance. They are nowhere near objective enough.

Objectivity does not seem to be their intedned focus.

Instead, they serve as little more than hate sites.

Welcome to Free Speech.

You can possibly add FR to this list.

If you go here

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1442085/posts

you will find a lot of fr members who think the chinese are worse than hitler, more racist than nazis.

Re #9

Yeah, some of these English "instructors" are of really questionable quality. I only went to see one of the blogs. Did not know that leftie bloggers are among them.

Re #10

So if we close in on Peking Duck guy, he may feel that his kind are the only bright spot of Western civilization because conservatives are in cahoots with Chinese communists to bash him.:-) That would be an interesting spin-off from this fracas.

Derbyshire: SORRY STATE (Communist, Nationalist, and Dangerous) ***................."Nationalism" does not really capture the whole of the phenomenon under consideration here. There is a large component of racial pride. I used to belong to a scholarly e-mail group for Chinese scientists and researchers in the U.S. When I ventured some mild remarks about the status of Tibet and Turkestan, I was met with a volley of frankly racial abuse. One respondent addressed me as "England big nose," and another offered sarcastically to kiss my "hairy hand." These are not illiterate rednecks, mind you, but the cream of Chinese intelligentsia, bearers of advanced degrees from prestigious universities. Another staple of the xenophobic literature now popular in China is the claim that U.S. scientists are working on racially selective biological weapons; and the very respectable British Sinologist Jasper Becker, in his 2000 book The Chinese, claims that the government sponsors research to prove that the Chinese belong to a separate species. One wonders what direction China's own biological-weapons research is taking.

.........................The Chinese people respond eagerly to these ultra-nationalist appeals: That is precisely why the leadership makes them. Resentment of the U.S., and a determination to enforce Chinese hegemony in Asia, are well-nigh universal among modern mainland Chinese. These emotions trump any desire for constitutional government, however much people dislike the current regime for its corruption and incompetence. Find a mainlander, preferably one under the age of thirty, and ask him which of the following he would prefer: for the Communists to stay in power indefinitely, unreformed, but in full control of the "three T's" (Tibet, Turkestan, Taiwan); or a democratic, constitutional government without the three T's. His answer will depress you. You can even try this unhappy little experiment with dissidents: same answer. .......***

English blogs in China:the disappointing ethnocentrism

The author of the above post, Mark Anthony Jones, is an self-hating Aussie Marxist living in Shenzhen, China. He has been teaching in Jiangsu and Shanghai. The guy hates America and the entire West deeply.

He and Peking Duck are engaging in a dog-fight for a job offer from CCP. Looks like MAJ is winning, which makes Peking Duck pretty sour.
