Congressman John D. Dingell (MI-15), the Dean of the House of Representatives, condemned the recent comments made by Representative Tom Tancredo (CO-06) as ignorant and inexcusable for a Member of Congress. During a recent interview on Tampa radio station WFLA-AM, Mr. Tancredo said that the US might take out (Muslim) holy sites in response to another terrorist attack on the US. When asked if he meant Mecca, Congressman Tancredo responded yeah.
Said Dingell, First of all, suggesting the bombing of a holy site of any religion is simply inexcusable for an elected official in the United States Congress and an anathema to the millions of people of faith across our nation. To even suggest an attack on Mecca shows Congressman Tancredo has no understanding of the true nature of Islam and the peaceful Muslims living in the Arab world. The holy sites of all religions Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism and all others are the most sacred and hallowed places for their respective followers and to suggest that any one of these sites be bombed is clearly an attack on that religion and its followers. Mr. Tancredos reprehensible attack on Islam is ignorant and offensive.
We must stand united and strong against terrorism, but these are exactly the kind of careless comments that Muslim extremists feed off of and use to recruit new terrorists. To suggest that we hold an entire religion responsible for the actions of a minority of religious extremists - in effect declare a holy war against Islam - is outrageous and plays right into the hands of those very radicals. There is no better motivation to get someone to fight an apparent enemy than to threaten what they love most and are willing to defend at any cost whether it is their family, homeland, or their holy land. I only hope that his statement wont be used on extremist websites as justification for a holy war against the United States and our allies.
America was founded by people who believed strongly both in God and in the free expression of religion; that solid foundation remains and is part of what makes us the greatest nation in the world. Mr. Tancredos comments --while he has the absolute right to make such remarks-- are contradictory to freedom and the values of this nation. I call on the Republican Leadership in Congress and the President to condemn these comments and make clear that this is an action that the United States would never lower itself to.
Then how do you explain the turnaround in Iraq, the millions that risked their lives to come out and vote, and the hundreds of thousands of Muslims that are fighting side by side with our brave soldiers and Marines to bring freedom to Iraq?
Though I haven't talked to any of my friends in the region, I'm sure that Tancredo's comments went over as well as Dingel's remarks with our service members in Iraq and Afghanistan.
[[Why is it that our Freepers who have been to Iraq, or are there now, don't agree with you?]]Better sources than you say otherwise.Better yet Eric, let's see YOU walk down the street in any of these muslim countries and let's see how long it takes you to assume room temperature. Put up or shut up. The religion of peace would use your head for a paint bucket.

You are correct.
Cong. Dingell has something in common with all or nearly all of those that attack Cong. Tancredo at Free Rebublic. Like them, he supports giving legal status to illegal aliens.
Cong. Dingell has the blood of over three thousand (3,000) Americans on his hands based on his actions in Congress prior to September 11, 2001. The immigration policies of Cong. Dingell and those like him in Congress was a major cause of Americans being murdered by Islamic terrorists on September 11, 2001.
Apparently you haven't been paying attention to all the terrorist attacks directed toward arab governments and arab establishments. Terrorists don't give a rat's ass if you detroy Mecca and they would celebrate our taking that action because it makes our position weaker and theirs stronger. You can't reason with or threaten a fanatic. You are being manipulated by terrorists and reacting exactly in the way they want you to react.
Once Mecca is gone, Muhammad is exposed as a false prophet.
Yes.
Muslims know this already and fear it becoming widely recognized. The pyramid scheme will crumble quickly and undebiably.
Lets get objective, pragmatic, and get on with it!
The statement was we will bomb holy sites IF we got hit with nuclear attacks.
I think GWB should make it clear that we will level all muslim countries IF we got hit with nukes or other WMDs. This should be official policy as was with the soviets.
If we make this 100% clear the islamonazis will think twice before pressing that button. They will know that nuking NYC will cause hundreds of millions of their brothers to meet the same fate.
Remember, 99% of Russians did not want to nuke anybody. But it was necessary to make that threat with MAD to stop the crazy 1%. Sometimes you have to stand up and show teeth.
"carry a big stick"
Once Mecca is gone, Muhammad is exposed as a false prophet. If St. Peters was attacked by terrorists, would Roman Catholicism go away? Or would its adherents perhaps become more devout?

A "vast majority?" Where? In a single country? Iraq?
I doubt that constitutes a "vast majority" of Muslims.
"....hundreds of thousands of Muslims that are fighting side by side...."
The same was so with the ARVN, not so very long ago...half or more of them were VC, and another 49% of them feared for their families.....I fully support establishing secular democracy in the center of the muslim world.....but I remember full well the course of events from Jan, 1973 thru April, 1975........hopefully, the final outcome this time will be different.
I am not attacking Muslims as people, I am merely describing the violent false religion that most of them were born into.
Most Muslims probably know very little about the Koran, just following their clerics, imams, etc.
I mean no disrespect to you since you know a lot more about vietnam than I (based on your username), but I really dislike the parallels being drawn between the conflicts (usually from the Kennedy crowd). In Iraq there is no central, organized opposition, most of the country is on our side. We also have an administration committed to victory.
As a member of the 93rd Congress, Dingell has the blood of millions of Vietnamese, Cambodians, and Laotians on his hands. As a member of the Democrat controlled 93rd Congress in 1975, Dingell betrayed and abandoned a valiant ally by refusing to come to South Vietnam's aid when they were attacked by the communists.
One of my last remaining goals in life is to live long enough to piss on Dingell's grave.
So you think that moslems are going to blame terrorists because we nuked Mecca, and therefore they'll crack down on them? Well, I suppose its possible, but I think that's pretty unlikely.
Similar to what happens in the on-going Israel/Palestine situation. A bomb goes off, a rocket fires back. The old story of "you started it," "no, you started it" is getting tiring.
But the Israelis are firing rockets at known terrorist camps, not just launching them into any old village. They're at least aiming at people they know are trying to do them harm.
Especially if those someones are shooting at our troops from inside a mosque, for example. Minarets are going to go down.
I've got no problem with that at all.
Scary, but believable.
There's no equivalence, as according to Islam, Mecca and its "holy" places are not supposed to be harmed.
There's nothing in the New Testament about St. Peter's.
Devout Muslims believe that the black stone represents all of Allah's power and glory. They believe, sincerely, that if the USA launched rockets at Mecca, Allah would swat them away like flies, or turn them around to hit New York or Washington.
If Allah could not stop theinfidel bombs, and Mecca was turned into a crater, this would constitute absolute proof that Muhammed was a fraud and a liar, and that the moon-god rock had no power after all.
This would mean the end of the entire cult of Islam. Their cult could not adapt to or respond to or overcome complete, visible proof that Allah was powerless to stop the infidel weapons.
Now, I'm not calling for or predicting Mecca will ever be bombed. Not unless American cities were destroyed by Islamofascist nuclear bombs first. Our insane enemies don't care if we threaten Cairo or Damascus. They would welcome such attacks, as providing mega-martyrs for Allah! Polls conducted in many Islamic nations have asked, "Would it be worth it to wipe Israel off the map with atomic bombs, if it meant millions of Muslims would die in the counterstrike?" The poll is answered YES! by high numbers. So targeting cities means nothing to our fanatical enemies.
Mecca, on the other hand, means everything to our enemies. Some of our semi-rational enemies must understand that if they nuke our cities, they may finally get a test of Allah's power to smite incoming missiles before they can hit and destroy Mecca and Allahs black moon-god Kaaba rock. These semi-rational enemies must understand this, so that they can influence the complete maniacs, and keep them from ever getting the nuclear weapons they would surely use against America, given the chance.
The semi-rational Islamists must understand that Mecca and Allah's all-powerful black moon-god rock are on the table, as a retaliatory target, if our cities are attacked with nukes.
Putting Mecca on the counterstrike target option list, even hypothetically, means far, far more to them than threats to change Arab regimes or bomb Muslim capitols.
I want the insane and semi-sane Islamofascists to understand this: nuke America, and Mecca is on the retaliation list. This is the only meaningful deterrent threat, to insane and semi-sane Islamofascists. If you wish the sane Muslims and semi-sane Islamists to influence the Islamofascists away from WMD attacks on the USA, let it be known that the very existence of Mecca, (and therefore their entire religion), is on the table.
(And don't bother with the trite comparison of Mecca and say, the Vatican. The Vatican is just the place the Pope hangs his miter. Catholics don't literally lay down and worship some idol in St. Peters 5 X a day, for 20 minutes. If Rome was nuked, it would not destroy Christianity. Christianity lies in the heart of each believer, in the concept of Jesus the Savior on the Cross, not in worshipping some physical idol or totem like Allah's black rock.)
