If he's Brazilian, is it possible that he only knew Portuguese? (I'm not trying to blame the cops, they were weighing the consequences of shooting versus the possible consequences of NOT shooting) I am just trying to figure out what happened.

That's what I'm thinking.

Couple this with the fact that the cops were plainclothes, and it's easy to see why this man may have acted this way.

If a gang of folks were screaming at me in a foreign language while trying to run me down, I'd probably flee as well.

He spoke fluent English and had lived and worked in England for 3 years.

Furthermore, while most of the police appear to have been special undercover officers, they had obviously identified themselves as police when they were yelling at him to stop, since everybody else in the station recognized them as such and was obeying their instructions to get down, etc.

This guy was running because he had a reason to run. Brazil and other parts of LatAm are hotbeds of terrorist acitivity, particularly bombmaking, and an electrician is certainly somebody who would have had skills to bring to the "job."

Here's my police story. After work late one night, I had to pee bad. I slipped behind a 7/11 which was adjacent to an apartment building. As I was peeing I heard this lady moaning. It scared the hell ot of me and I went running off. As I jammed out of the alley two police officers were coming in. They pulled their weapons and said stop right now you mother f%^$er. They slammed me against the wall. I was scared sh*tless and you know what? So were the cops. It turns out the lady (of questionable character) got beat up by some dude and someone in the appartment building had called it in a few minutes earlier. I was just one unlucky guy at the wrong place at the wrong time. Anyway, it all got worked out (Thank god for the pee spot on the wall, plus I didn't look the part of thug).

Moral of the story?

Always have an empty H2O bottle stashed under the seat.

If this where true, then why are the cops now saying he had NO CONNECTION WHATSOEVER with the Islamopunks?

To my knowledge, they haven't said that. They simply said that he wasn't one of the people they were initially seeking, and they're still investigating who he was and what he was doing there.
