I think you answer your own question.
Simple. It's not about hate, or what we did in Iraq, or anything like that. They want to impose their mixture of Islamist religious zealotry and a Marxist-Leninist-Hitlerian political ideology on the entire world. They are at war with us, and these are not criminal acts, but acts of war.
In order to survive, we must, at long last, get that through our heads.
Because they are the son's of Satan! Total demonic! That's all it can be.
Because they can.
Because they are tolerated to thrive and grow.
Because the countries that allow this, for whatever reason, thought they were immune to the consequences.
Your post lamenting "those poor people" was the first thing I thought when I saw the pictures....
Why is it then, that other people can see the exact same pictures of Americans, and start celebrating and dancing around (like they did on 9/11)?
I am only ONE person that has never felt what another feels, of course, but I cannot imagine looking at those pics and celebrating...sigh

Zawahiri (Osama's #2) is a leader of Egyptian Islamic Jihad. He was involved in the assassination of Anwar Sadat and was imprisoned by Mubarak for a while. Zawahiri hates the Egyptian government; and Mubarak and his government have been a target for many years. (There have been many plots to murder Mubarak - most notably in 1995 in New York.) This is also why al Qaeda murdered that poor Egyptian ambassador to Iraq recently. Zawahiri wanted him dead.
Al Qaeda wants to bring down the Egyptian government by any means possible - e.g., by destroying the tourist business; and to torpedo any arrangement Egypt makes with Israel to maintain order in Gaza. Al Qaeda would like to be free to move into the Sinai area and Gaza (which is strategically located on the Mediterranean) to use as a base for operations.
We truly entered world war 3.

Egypt's foreign minister was talking about a phone call he got from Britain's Jack Straw. He went on to add that in the past Britain always issued warnings against traveling to areas that were hit by terror attacks. Now the British government adopted a new policy that do not issue such a warning. "They believe today that we cannot defeat terror by hiding but by confrontation" he said.

There is no "safe" spot on Earth to hide from someone with a bomb that could be the neighbor next to you. IMO, you go where you want to go. You look them in the eye. You refuse to submit to them. I'd rather die free, then submit to souls possessed by evil.
