Kudos to the guy for stopping the pervert, but a 9mm rifle?

One round into a naked guy that's breaking into my house? Well, perhaps if it were from the 12 gauge, even then, I'd keep popping him until he quit moving.

the term sexual assault is pretty vague... did he rape her? or just touch her inappropriately? In Texas that is the legal term for a whole host of offences including rape. All carry the possibility of a life sentance. In Texas 'life' means 35 years before you get to talk to a parole board. If I could work my will it would simply mean life.

the male resident of the house shot him with a rifle. The 9 mm bullet
buckshot works better

Extra credit to the homeowner for causing two wounds with one round.

The nice thing about a .45 is that you don't need expansion. It is already big enough.I still use hollow point .45's. There's less of a risk of pass-through and hitting something or someone behind the target.

I checked one out. They're pretty heavy, kinda pricy, and there aren't many toys for them. They use a P89 10 rd. magazine. However, it is nice, and built like a tractor. OTOH, for the bucks, I think I'd rather get a mini-30.

As the assailant reached through the broken glass to unlock the door, the male resident of the house shot him with a rifle. The 9 mm bullet went through the assailant's hand and into his abdomen. Nice shooting. 9mm *rifle*? There are a few of course. Maybe a Marlin Camp carbine, or a Hi-Point 955? Of course there are 9mm versions of the AR-15 as well.
Sheriff's deputies found him lying in the front yard, a knife in his hand, Jordan said. He is in stable condition at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin
That will happen when you bring a knife to a gun fight. The defender should have used a gun that shoots bigger bullets, or faster ones.

It said a 9mm rifle, never heard of one before but that would be large for a rifle See my post above, there are several rifles, carbines really, chambered for the 9mm pistol cartridge. Very handy little guns, but the same models are often available in .40 S&W and/or .45 ACP, which would be just as handy, but more effective too.

One round into a naked guy that's breaking into my house? It stopped him didn't it? Put him right on the ground. Remember you shoot to stop, not to kill. Of course enough force to stop has a good chance of punching his ticket permanently, but that's his problem.

Remember you shoot to stop, not to kill Of course. It's a given that we never shoot until there is a deadly threat and stop as soon as that threat is ended. But I train with double taps, and if the threat is still there (standing) double tap again, and again, and once again if needed.
I normally have 26 rounds available to me as I'm out & about day or night, and I surly don't wish for it, I wouldn't hesitate using them if I need to.
