22 July 2005 PIGEON IS HOME NINE DAYS LATE A RACING pigeon sent on a nine-hour flight home took nine days - and even then needed lifts in a helicopter and courier's van to complete its trip.
The bird was released at Chermont in France and should have simply headed straight across the English Channel for its loft in Bridlington, East Yorks.
Instead, it flew through Belgium, Holland and Denmark before eventually flopping on to the deck of Lomond North Sea oil rig off Aberdeen.
After being stranded on the platform for a week because of fog, it was sent ashore by chopper by workers who got owner Paul Lawson's phone number from its wing-stamp.
But now the bird has flown its last flight after Paul, of Flamborough Homing Society, had to arrange its van ride.
He said: "Birds do stray regularly - but I won't be sending this one again. Its racing days are over."
Why do I get the feeling this pigeon will next be seen wrapped in bacon and appearing with wild rice and asparagus.
Even French pigeons suck!
Hey, he just wanted to have some travel and adventure. Sample some good cheeses, maybe a little wine, get some sea breezes..
What's all the fuss about?
One bad day and his career over:'(
What did Bush know, and when did he know it?
It took the German tour thru Holland Belgium and Denmark. The Germans took the same tour in WW2 . Holland and Belgium were a breeze, Denmark was a little more trouble.
Yeah, he was a sightseeing pigeon.Either that or he was cheating on his pigeon wife with a french slut pigeon.
