Joe Harnell, a Hollywood arranger for many singing stars, who earned a Grammy for his 1962 dance arrangement "Fly Me to the Moon Bossa Nova," died here on Thursday. He was 80. The cause was heart failure, which he suffered a week after slipping into a coma after a fall, his younger brother, Stewart Harnell, said. In the late 1950's and early 60's, Mr. Harnell, a pianist, conductor and composer worked with Peggy Lee in concerts and on several albums. Mr. Harnell conducted the orchestra on Ms. Lee's albums "Anything Goes: Cole Porter" and "Peggy Lee and the George Shearing Quintet" and played piano on another of her albums, "Things Are Swingin'." During the bossa nova dance craze in the 1960's, Mr. Harnell arranged "Fly Me to the Moon Bossa Nova," a hit based on Bart Howard's song with a similar title, "Fly Me to the Moon." Mr. Harnell's arrangement earned him a Grammy Award. He also created music for films and television shows, including "Santa Barbara," "The Incredible Hulk," "The Bionic Woman," "Alien Nation" and "V," and received three Emmy nominations for best dramatic score. Born in the Bronx, Mr. Harnell began his musical career at age 14 as a jazz pianist. He attended the University of Miami and for many years taught and served as a guest lecturer on film scoring at the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California. He is survived by his wife, Alice; three sons, Jesse and Jason, of Los Angeles, and Joel of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two stepsons; his brother, Stewart, of Atlanta; and four grandchildren.

What does a picture of the Gong Show guy, Yoko Ono, and John Lennon have to do with this?

I think that's him. He was Music director on the Mike Douglas show when John and Yoko were there.

I've always thought that Hulk theme sounded an awful lot like Johnny Mandel's MASH theme.

ROFL! Actually, on another board, I use an animated gif of Peter pretending to be the Hulk as my avatar.

From Joe Harnell's biography:

During the summers of 1949-1951, Joe Harnell continued his studies in composition with Aaron Copland at Tanglewood. For three years he held the post of musical director with Grey Advertising, and from 1967 to 1973 he was the musical director for the popular MIKE DOUGLAS SHOW. Moving to California in the early 1970's, he returned to composition, emerging as a celebrated composer of film and television music.

To date, Joe Harnell has been nominated for an Emmy Award on three different occasions for Best Dramatic Score. He has composed over 400 hours of original music for motion pictures and for such television shows as SANTA BARBARA, THE INCREDIBLE HULK, THE BIONIC WOMAN, ALIEN NATION and "V." Mr. Harnell also has done several television commercials for Japan, one of which was awarded the Japanese equivalent of a CLIO. The music from these commercials has also been released on full-length recordings performed by Mel Torme, Anita O'Day, Crystal Gayle, Marlena Shaw and other noted artists.

That link doesn't work. It sounds vaguely like it. If you play both on the piano they have the same opening cadence and chord progression. Not enough to really claim it was a rip off or anything.
