Baltimore Mayor Martin O"Malley has again showed what an idiot he is by having the fire department ride around the city looking for crime, isn't that what the police department is for? Gee, I hope the police department is out looking for fires. MOM get your head out of your ass!
Actually not a bad idea. Fire Departments tend to have down time by the nature of the service. Having them on the streets vs sitting in the stations is not a bad idea. Having another set of eyes on the streets can not hurt. The only cost is the extra fuel used.
I think we'll find that the true story has more to do with O'Malley's new girl friend wanting a ride on a fire truck than finding crime.
But, the fire department doesn't know how to do arrests, book guys, etc...also, the best thing to do, is once someone is caught, keep em in jail for the maximum time.
They will soon leave the vicinity, and hopefully wherever the perp goes, the treatment will be the same...
This is a bad idea. In San Francisco, they keep trying to make the fire department members fight "crime", too.
I disagree; it's not a good idea to have firemen being used to fight crime. All it takes is one big riot or protest (the kind San Francisco tends to have); and then it'll be "BURN BABY BURN" time...
It is a bad idea to have the primary emergency responders be seen as an enemy by people who already don't like the police. It gets firemen shot at, and some people will wait longer to report a fire.
