That point is about to come again in response to the terrorist outrages that have been inflicted upon us by Islamic fundamentalists.

I've always admired optimists.

Amen, expose the cancer so we can cut it out before we have to make a much larger cut on the whole thing.

It is long past time for those Muslims who are not complicit with these radical Islamic clerics and their disciples who are preaching violence and hatred toward your host countries to actively get involved in exposing them.

Amen!

We are a peace-loving people that are longsuffering and slow to anger. But there is an inevitable breaking point that will surely come. Imperial Japan and Nazi Germany discovered this.

I deeply appreciate Lindsey's comments.

I think the reality is sinking in for many that there might not be any "friendly Muslims," and that to be Muslim is to be, as per the ideology itself, intent on, well, discouraging the ability to remain alive for anyone who does not accept the Muslim ideology.

It's about time that Muslims began speaking out against/at least about terrorism by Islama terrorism/terrorists, but I still find the emphasis on all that I've read them express as being something lesser in their perceptions in everyone else, that everyone else has some burden of "understanding" and being "tolerant" about Muslims...when, in fact, they should be addressing their own kind.

The world's been hugely tolerant and understanding of Muslims. It's no one else's problem but Islamic ideology and those who are instructed by that process to demean and worse, take the lives of others not of their kind.

The problem as I see it isn't that there is not enough tolerance for Muslims but that there has been far too much of it, to the point of others walking on egg shells to avoid "offending" Muslims...out of fear that there will be some sort of militant response if some Muslim is "offended."

And that's the problem. And it's one of and about Muslims and their own community, not one of others about them. They practice a form of retaliation and destruction to and about anyone they deem is their enemy, isn't with them in belief, and that includes everyone who isn't a Muslim when carried to extremes, as terrorism has proven time and time again.

They're only peaceful muslims because they don't have the numbers yet in other countries to show their true feelings. When they have the majority in those countries...God help us all.

Round up all the Muslims in the country and put them in internment camps for the duration.

I say this with a heavy heart, but as one who grew up in Dar al-Islam I fear that what Hal proposes simply will not happen.

All Moslems are taught that their first spiritual loyalty is to God, but their first temporal loyalty is to the Umma, the Moslem people as a whole. This is very powerful conditioning, and therefore hard to break. Moreover, Moslems in non-Moslem countries almost always seek out their own kind, and form an inner, closed community. There is not only a psychological barrier to "exposing" members of the community, there is a great personal risk.

If, as another poster says, the cancer is to be removed, then it can only be done from the outside; I feel most of the closed Moslem communities are closed also to the reasoning in these posts. The alternative - and for me at least it is a very thinkable alternative - is the solution imposed by their Most Catholic Majesties: expulsion of the whole community.

The swamp will never expel the alligators. We either hunt them down ourselves, or drain the swamp.

"It is long past time for those Muslims who are not complicit with these radical Islamic clerics and their disciples who are preaching violence and hatred toward your host countries to actively get involved in exposing them. "

But they will not do that because they secretly sympathize with the radical message but maybe don't openly condone their methods. This is the main obstacle towards Muslim reactions to terrorism there is quiet sympathy for their cause, and a real lack of energy exposing or publicly condemning the acts of these scum

There are no peaceful muslims so the premise of the article makes everything else said a moot point.

Well said.

I liken this situation to "The Matrix," when Neo was going through his training. Remember...the woman in the red dress?

Just as everyone who wasn't taken out of the Matrix was a potential "agent," who posed a deadly thread, there is no way to determine who are the "combatants" (read terrorists) among the the Muslim population, until, of course, they strike.

President Bush is valiantly attempting to address the problem of terrorism by killing or arresting those we can identify, and "winning the hearts and minds" of the rest. He can do this because the American people were convinced that our country could return to "normality" after 9/11, and we still feel that we can go about our lives in relative safety. However, a more devastating in the future attack could easily extinguish the American patience for such methodology.

As the author warns, the Islamic population has limited time and opportunity to wake up and get involved. It's up to them, no just to report terrorists, but to actively fight against the Islamic Terrorist movement.

Our President has sworn an oath to protect this country. If winning hearts and minds doesn't work the next logical step could be catastrophic for the Islamic population.

Friendly advice to peaceful Muslims

What is the difference between a "peaceful" muslim and an inactive "sleeper cell" muslim?
