"Conservatives have been frustrated that over the past 30 years—in which seven of the nine justices have been appointed by Republican presidents—that mainstream has changed little. The confirmation of John Roberts will move the court a significant distance in their direction."

Well, I can vouch for THAT! I hope he can make a difference. The Dimowits need to be thwarted at every turn. We have a lot of ground to make up for. Please, let this be the beginning of the turn of the tide for a more conservative, moral, religious (or benign; I can live with that), patriotic, Woman & Man & Children = Family oriented America.

I sooooo want this to be a good and positive thing for our country.

Let's hope so. It'd be something to actually have a conservative court.

So Barone adds his name to an ever increasing list of pedigreed men and women endorsing Roberts as someone other than a SOUTER.

They had little choice. Roberts has been called the nation's best appellate lawyer not only by Justice Antonin Scalia

Now I trust my instincts, and unlike Clement when I wanted to know her opinion of settled precedent as a Supreme, Roberts I felt "safe" with from the minute his name was announced. However, look at those that back Roberts if a name is what you need. No less than Scalia, Rehnquist, Sekelow, Levin, Ingraham, Olsen, Barone and down the list. And yet the dissenters can point only to Coulter and Barnes. Coulter, whom I already disagree with on Rove, is not someone I would put above the instincts and knowledge of any of these men and women.

I recognize some of these dissenters have good motives. Many, however, I recognize as people that have typically bashed this administration, Republicans and always carry a motive ulterior than conservatisism. To those of the latter group, you have fooled no one. We have followed your posts quite awhile and recognize you for who you are.

The rest I have no desire to assure. You will just have to wait and realize the good pick this was. I have no interest in wasting time that needs to be devoted to confirmation of Roberts.

They got away with it then, but they probably will not now. When Democrats made that demand, all living former solicitors general, most of whom served in Democratic administrations, signed a statement saying that it would be improper for the government to turn over such memos to the Senate. This ploy provides a very slender basis for a filibuster. And Republicans are confident that they have the votes to change the rules if Democrats do filibuster—which makes it less likely that they will do so.

I don't buy this. The GOP Senate is run by a bunch of sissies. If they had any balls--or even just some sense--they'd have gone "nucular" in time to save Miguel Estrada, instead of letting him twist in the wind and ultimately be defeated. Bunch of punks. If I were the Dems, hell yes I would filibuster if I wanted to. If the GOP aren't gonna fight back, screw em.

I heard Levin on the radio admit that he's basically just trusting that it'll be "better than O'Connor." He admits that the GOP Senators still need to ask questions because even he doesn't really know what this guy's all about. I haven't even read whatever Scalia said nor do I know in what context he said it. Was it an awards dinner? A dust jacket blurb? What exactly did he say? The fact is we don't know much about this guy. But another fact is that what Huck thinks matters not one little speck. So I might as well just go to sleep.

No more voter disenfranchisement! We're conservatives, we vote for conservatives, our leaders ran as conservatives, we've elected conservatives, our leaders nominated conservatives...etc.

How dare anyone refuse me my right and obligation to have my vote count!

>> Schumer and Sen. Edward Kennedy made clear how they will proceed

Kennedy wouldn't know a mainstream candidate if it was sitting in the passenger seat of his car as he was driving off a bridge.

Roberts is more conservative than O'Connor was. This will be a win for the conservatives as long as he proves to be a true conservative.

You mean 'understream' candidate sitting in the passenger seat, right?

I think Coulter jumped the gun before she had her facts in about Roberts.

His conservative credentials are solid, he is a member of the federalist society, he is also a member of a republican lawyers group, he is a GOP campaign contributor, his best friend is the most conservative judge around (Michael Luttig, who was in Judge Roberts wedding party as either the best man or as an usher).

I just read Fred Barnes article, and he definatly doesn't know all the facts, his remark that Judge Roberts won't vote to over turn roe vs wade is absurd, Judge Roberts wife is a pro-life activist.

Coulter may also be holding a grudge since her friend Estrada wasn't a nominee.

I don't know what Coulter's motivations are. She may be genuine, there may be other factors. Unlike Noonan, for example, that crafted a condesending hypocritical idiotic response to the Inaugural speech, Coulter didn't jump off the cliff completely so I'm holding fire on her...though I strongly disagree and will not take time to respond to her article. She can say as she wishes, my opinion of Roberts remains in direct opposition to hers. Instead of arguing with her, I am more interested in supporting Robert's confirmation.

I like Michael Barone, I think Michael Barone is a smart guy, and I believe Michael Barone believes what he is saying is true.

But as a former Democrat, I do not put anything past the liberal pro-infanticide, pro-tax hikes, pro-rubbery Constitution crowd. They will do their damndest to assassinate this man's character. When they're done, we can only hope they're the ones with the wrath of the voters upon them.
