Russian ethnic.

How did you guess that?

Let us put it this way. First name: Vladimir. Does that make him Russian? Wrong. Mikhail Saakashvili, the Georgian president has the first Russian (well, Slavic) name which does not make him Russian.

Second name: Arutyunov. That must be the Armenian.

His name is Vladimer something-or-other that doesn't sound Islamic. However, I agree that the odds were that he'd have been from the religion of peace.

"I wonder how often a grenade just fails to explode. What's the failure rate?"

Well, if it has been converted into a cigarette lighter like the one I have at home, I would say 100% of the time.

On a side note: Arutyunov is an Armenian name. For example: one famous Arutyunov was G.Arutyunov, the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Armenia. Another is:

ARMENIAN DETAINED IN RUSSIA: Russian Itar-Tass news agency reports that the Russian police detained a man who helped suicide bombers evade airport checks and explode airplanes that killed 90 people two weeks ago Russia.

The police officials identified the detainee as Armen Arutyunov, an Armenian, a resident of Krasnodar. The police said that Arutyunov illegally sold airline tickets on the black market. Investigators said they found out that Arutyunov met on August 24 two Chechen residents and sold them air tickets for the planes flying to Volkograd and Sochi. Arutyunov identified the Chechen women by id pictures and said that he had no idea about them planning terrorists attack.

By the way, Arutyunov is an Armenian name and Armenians are the biggest (and most abused) minority in Tbilisi.

Sorry to burst the bubble but Arutyunov is an Armenian name, look it up on google: Arutyunov, Armenia and you'll get plenty of hits, to include their last soviet Premier, a G. Arutyunov. Armenians are the largest minority in Tbilisi.

"...Vladimir Arutyunov?" If he in fact did it, he most likely did it for the Orthodox Christian nationalists of Mother Russia.

Nice try, but not only is he an Armenian, but the Orthodox Georgians just finished building a large Cathedral on top of a 500 year old Orthodox Armenian cemetery that they just bulldozed over.

Im aware of this now. But I will submit that when we as Freepers hear of a bombing, our first thought is Islam. If it is not, then they havent gotten through to us yet. So, my knee jerk reaction was wrong this time, and since 9-11, Im fairly certain this is the only time I have been wrong.

.identified him as Vladimir Arutyunov, in his late 20s." Russian ethnic.

Well it turns out he is Armenian decent, but Georgian citizen, and a Christian, not even a Muslim. I wonder what his beef it? Maybe the Turk genicide? The Armenians failed to get President Bush to declare it a genicide (again) due to our alliance with Turkey. Could of been what motivated him?

Really, I had not heard that! No wonder the Armenians are po'ed at the Georgians! It could of been the Georgian president he was after not the American president after all!

They are starting to get confused and fight with eachother over wether Bush nominated Roberts to distract from Rove or is Rove to distract from an extreme right wing nominee who is going to over turn Roe and turn back the clock 100 years on civil rights.

The Georgians are pissed at the Armenians because not only did they compete with them a lot but the last Georgian king was an Armenian and he abdicated (seeing the insanity that is the Caucuses, I'm not surprised) and passed the crown to Alexander I.
