Laugh at the pathetic nature of waving a list of an insignificant fraction of "scientists" (many of whom, you'll note, aren't even scientists), as if that proved anything whatsoever.
It never ceases to amaze me how often the creationists are impressed by this -- and how often they think that anyone *else* will be.
Truth is destermined by the evidence, not by whether you can find a few fringe folks to sign a petition.
But hey, since the evidence isn't on the creationists' side, I can see why they might get all excited and wet their pants over *anything* that they can point to as "support", no matter how irrelevant and sad it might be.
I have repeatedly impored Michael_Michaelangelo to actually *learn* something about science before he attempts to pontificate upon it again, and yet again he has refused to follow such sensible advice. If he had, he'd have realized how comical and embarrassingly puerile it is to smugly post a "list of dissenters" in an attempt to put even a minor dent in the vast amounts of evidence and research which solidly supports evolutionary biology.
You guys are just making fools of yourselves. But the sad part is that you're making conservatism in general look bad at the same time. I know *lots* of folks who might otherwise be open to considering themselves as conservatives -- were it not for the belligerent loud-mouthed ignorance being spouted by all too many conservatives attacking evolution and other well-established fields of science. Unlike you, these folks *know* enough about the subject to *know* that you're spouting patent falsehoods which only a complete ignorance of the field can maintain (i.e., stuff which even a first-year biology student knows better than to claim). So when they listen to you guys -- and lord knows you're vocal enough -- they're left with the impression that most or all conservatives must similarly misinformed and/or idiotic. It has the effect of driving away a lot of people who might otherwise be willing to join our political movement, just as the most shrill whackos on the left drive away a lot of potential support for Democrats.
