Fellow Freepers - I need Your Help Signing Petition Please?

Fellow Freepers,

I need your help please? Most of you do not live in South Florida so this issue does not pertain to you right now. But it may one day pertain to you since most of us will one day want to retire to another part of the country. Even if you dont live, vacation, or fish in South Florida, after you retire you may one day decide to move here or vacation here. We have a very serious issue with pollution with our two rivers that flow out into the Atlantic Ocean. The pollution is caused by the water that is released from Lake Okeechobee down into our rivers that was normally released to flow south of us. "Big Sugar" in WPB owns (via campaign money) our politicians and the Water Managemnet District. We held a rally last Saturday and are now fighting back against "Big Sugar" and the politicians that they control. If any of you are interested, you can read more about it at the Florida Oceanographic website. I fish twice a week and for alot of us that live here, the ocean and the rivers are our personal santuary. I am not an enviromentmental nut, but this issue is personal for me. Please do me a personal favor and help out a fellow Freeper and sign our petition (it will take a whole 60 seconds of your time). Remember, you or family may one day decide to move here or vacation here and I'm sure that you would want a safe environment for them. Thanks in advance for your help.

Please explain the dilemma. I remember reading something about releasing the high water into the canals or the rivers....and that there was so much money just spent on peoples property that releasing the water into the canals will overflow and flood peoples property.

I did! I enjoy fishing there when visiting friends and family in Florida. Indian River Oranges are very good too.

I can't eat fish out of the lake I live on. Henry Ford left us a heavy metals sludge in the sediment back in the early days.

It probably wouldn't harm the wife or I but we're still considering children.

heavy metals sludge

That makes a good reason the catch and release. You tend to live longer with less heavy metals in you.

I don't like to clean fish anyway. When I want fish for eating I go to Baldwin Michigan for salmon.

Um, Lake O was near an all time high. What were they supposed to do? Let it overflow? I agree the SF Water Management District couldn't drain a tub or fill a bucket without a disaster, but really. What were they supposed to do?

Your bringing the Fanjul family into this means what? Are you claiming Alfie Fanjul ordered them to drain water from the lake to benefit his business? Like I said, water needed to be drained. Do you have any other suggestions as to where it could go?

Oh, and I forgot to add, 1/4 of the Everglades is CLOSED because IT'S underwater. Uh, you think THAT may be why the released it into the Lox?

FLJoePa,

Are you one of the Fanjul family members or just trying to stir up trouble?
