Yes Al used to send him tapes... My favorite Al song was just Al and his Accordion on a tape doing a ode to mass transit called "Another one rides the Bus" to the tunes of Queens "Another one bites the Dust"....

I have just one of Weird Al's cds -- some kind of greatest hits compilation I think. Another One Rides the Bus is on there. His stuff is brilliant, and in interviews, he comes off as a real down-to-earth guy.
I just barely remember Oingo-Boingo. DJs like Dr. Demento were about the only ones who would promote guys like these. Certainly, the ones out there now (all owned by corporate giants like Clear Channel) would never give these acts the time of day, and that's too bad.
You remember Boingo frontman Danny Elfman...does Movie an TV themes and soundtracks, Batman, Good Will Hunting, Proof of Life, Men in Black, The Simpsons and Desperate Housewives.... done about all the soundtracks for any director Tim Burton movie Did the song "Weird Science" for the movie of the same name and "Dead Man's Party" (Oingo-Boingo was the band in the moive)in the Ronnie Dangerfield's "Back to School"....not bad for some joker sending in tapes to Dr D
