A 6 year-old boy was found dead yesterday morning, his hands and ankles bound and a gag stuffed in his mouth, in a water-filled bathtub in his Southesast Washington apartment, authorities said.

The boy appeared to have been dead for hours, perhaps longer, police said. He was alone in the apartment when his grandmother found him at 8:15AM, facedown in about a foot and a half of water, they said. The grandmother, who had come by to pick him up for summer camp, called 911 and was "hysterical" when police arrived, authorities said.

Police said that the cuase of the boy's death has not been determined and that they had no suspect or motive.

Page 1 this morning...below the fold.

Mother was AWOL? Boy described as "lively" (hyper-active) by grandfather.

Reporters seem to be tripping over themselves not to offend anyone.

What is a 6 yr old child doing alone in apartment?

Homocide people were visibly shaken by what they came upon according to on-camera interviews by local television stations.

Oh, my...how horrible. It's amazing that the grandmother is still around after stumbling upon a shock like that.

Where's mom and dad? One of them should have been home. No decent parent would leave a small boy like that unsupervised.
My guess is this little boy is another victim of family dissolution.

"Ramsey noted that..."...[T]his clearly was intentional."

Very creepy. And not something done in a flash of anger it doesn't appear. Who would have reason to murder a small child in such a manner? Did the mother regularly leave this boy unattended to wait for the grandmother to come by? Did the family have anything of value in the house? This is like the poor kids killed by the unpaid coyote cousins, but with this multi-multi generation family it doesn't seem they are immigrants.

What a really horrid story. The poor child, at least he is in heaven now.

Local reporters expounded on the story and stated that his hands and feet were bound, rolled up in a sheet and his body was weighted down in 1-1/2 ft of water in the bathtub.

And police-chief Ramsey says "...[T]his clearly was intentional."

Also said at this time, mother no a suspect.

Appears the mother left during the previous evening with the 11 month old brother. Could be she owed the wrong person some money, etc..

The boy's murderer is probably some sex offender with a lengthy record.

Here in Minnesota, land of 1,000 liberals, they're discussing moving Level 3 sex offenders to the suburbs. Seems they're too concentrated in the Mpls and St. Paul area.

I guess they wouldn't want anybody's child to miss out on the opportunity of being raped and murdered.

It would make too much sense to keep Level 3 sex offenders in prison.

But, hey, I feel alot safer just knowing Martha Stewart has an ankle bracelet.

Why would she not be a suspect? If she left with another child due to safety concerns, she should've taken the six yr old as well.

The media are going out of their way not to offend anyone.

1) "Could have been dead for hours...maybe longer.(What the hell does that mean)
2) No suspects???
3) Cause of death not determined???

I can understand the official cause of death not being officially determined, but no suspects?

And usually the motive is that some sick adult is too inconvenienced by the child.

If I was a betting woman I'd bet it was the mother's boyfriend.

The grandmother is probably in her 30s or 40s. The only surprise that I saw in the story was that the father has only been gone for a couple of years (note that the other child is 11 months old, and you can guess why he left.)

Nice job with the arithmetic. Stats-wise, there's nothing worse than being the child of someone other than the male of the house.

Have you seen that tv show about feral cats? The toms would kill the kittens that were sired by other males.
