Need Help with Phone Card for UAE
7/19/05

Posted on 07/19/2005 4:41:01 AM PDT by meowmeow

I've been surfing around here on FR and the web and I'm still confused. I need to get some phone cards to my brother-in-law who is stationed in Fujairah (UAE). I saw where I could buy them from AFEES but they only mentioned Iraq and Afghanistan. I also saw where some cards are a rip off for the troops (AT&T). There are plenty of places to donate money so that some organization can send phone cards to troops. But how do I find some to buy directly and to send directly to my BIL?

TOPICS: Your Opinion/Questions
KEYWORDS: phonecards
Thanks!

Here's some info on the VFW's Operation Uplink in case that might help :)

That helps - but I don't want to be limited to one card in 60 days and I'm not sure, given their timelines, he will still even be there by the time the order is processed. At least we can try that if nothing else works. Thanks for the link!

Meow, according to this link, I think the UAE might be covered by AFEES. You might want to double check just in case it is :)

This is what I do whenever I am deployed...I have an AAFES phone card, which I buy in the PX, not really sure where civilians can buy them, but they are sponsored by AT&T, and I dial back DSN to a base operator. I then get the base operator/staff duty to dial the toll free 1-866 number, and use the phone card as if I was back in the States..I use the minutes as if I were back home. Hope that helps you some.

I was wondering if that would work. I'm not sure if he has easy access to a DSN line, but that could be a backup option. Thanks.
