That's clearly a stretch. Racists hate and despise the members of other races. No one can say that of the average members and leaders of these mainstream civil rights organizations.

Organizations such as NAACP, LULAC, and La Raza can be correctly labelled racist based on the following definition of the word "racist" that I found in two different dictionaries:

"discriminatory especially on the basis of race or religion"

CJ, I beg to differ. La Raza is an extremely leftist, self-segregating, race-baiting organization. If they were TRULY looking out for the American Hispanic, they would be down there standing shoulder to shoulder with the Minutemen to keep illegals out of the U.S. instead of demanding rights and benefits for illegals. The illegals with their refusal to assimilate and their inaugural activity in the U.S being breaking the law by virtue of entering illegally are GIVING LAW-ABIDING, U.S. HISPANIC CITIZENS a bad name. Here's just a sampling of what La Raza believes (in addition to the Reconquista movement):
promotes driver's licenses for illegal aliens, no immigration law enforcement by local and state police and amnesty programs broader than the administration's proposal
After the passage of the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act, MALDEF, La Raza and other Hispanic groups split a $200,000 Ford grant to promote amnesty applications among illegals.
Like MALDEF (Mexican-American Legal Defense Fund), La Raza seems more interested in strengthening the "ethnic identity" of newly arrived immigrants, legal and illegal, rather than aiding their assimilation into the American mainstream. Which fits in well with the Democratic Party's apparent goal of creating a nation of identity groups as political instruments for the further collectivization and Balkanization of the United States.
