IT was the sort of confession that a decade ago might have been scribbled in a teenager's diary, then quietly tucked away in a drawer: "Somewhat recently," wrote a boy who identified himself only as Zach, 16, from Tennessee, on his personal Web page, "I told my parents I was gay." He noted, "This didn't go over very well," and "They tell me that there is something psychologically wrong with me, and they 'raised me wrong.' "
But what grabbed the attention of Zach's friends and subsequently of both gay activists and fundamentalist Christians around the world who came across the entry, made on May 29, was not the intimacy of the confession. Teenagers have been outing themselves online for years, and many of Zach's friends already knew he was gay. It was another sentence in the Web log: "Today, my mother, father and I had a very long 'talk' in my room, where they let me know I am to apply for a fundamentalist Christian program for gays."
"It's like boot camp," Zach added in a dispatch the next day. "If I do come out straight, I'll be so mentally unstable and depressed it won't matter."
The camp in question, Refuge, is a youth program of Love in Action International, a group in Memphis that runs a religion-based program intended to change the sexual orientation of gay men and women. Often called reparative or conversion therapy, such programs took hold in fundamentalist Christian circles in the 1970's, when mainstream psychiatric organizations overturned previous designations of homosexuality as a mental disorder, and gained ground rapidly from the late 90's. Programs like Love in Action have always been controversial, but Zach's blog entries have brought wide attention to a less-known aspect of them, their application to teenagers.

If that were true it would already have happened by now. There are lots of genes that are disadvantageous for reproduction but still stick around.
These are the products of anal intercourse.
Careful. Those are fighting words on FR.
Obviously, they can't procreate.
Sure they can. Homosexuals have the same reproductive plumbing as heterosexuals. It's just that for them, sex for reproduction and sex for recreation are different acts performed with different partners.
That gene will die out of the species.
Recessive genes don't die out easily. Besides which, you've invoked Darwin and as much as said that homosexuality is genetic -- that's gonna get a response.
Sadly, you're right. I have a cousin who's still in high school, and she tells me that this is "rampant". "Gay Chic" is the latest fad.
Heck, if Television and the MSM make it seem so freakin' cool, then why are we surprised when this happens?
With kids, I've come to learn a very important truth that works wonders. More Scripture, Less TV. And it works! Imagine that!
Taxpayers care because of the myriad of public health issues associated with homosexual behavior. Hint: average lifespan of male homo approx 47 years, not much different from IV drug user. Billions spent on research of a deadly venereal disease, AIDS, when change in behavior easily preventing said malady.
Would you care if he was having sex with his sister, animals, children under 5? Sheesh, you homophiles never cease to amaze me with your lack of understanding.
The goal of the program, said Mr. Smid, who said he was once gay but now renounces homosexual behavior, is not necessarily to turn gays into practicing heterosexuals, but to "put guardrails" on their sexual impulses.Like, why is this even controversial???
" There are lots of genes that are disadvantageous for reproduction but still stick around."
Yeah, Taliban males are a prime example, thousand of years and ugh.. the vile creatures are still around.
May I suggest an alternative therapy. I suggest he enroll in the Frisco Bath House Communicable Disease program. This program enables young gay lads to move to San Francisco, live with an aging queen, and to frequent the Frisco bath houses 24 hours a day. This provides unlimited access to every STD known to man, and several that haven't been isolated yet. This should provide him an excellent grounding in anal intercourse and sodomy which will last him all of his albeit, short life.
The kid is not "a homosexual." He's a boy who has same sex feelings and attractions. He's in the right place to deal with this treatable disorder.
That's why its not therapy, its spiritual counsling. Parents can make their kids go to church, which is essentially what this is.
There is something odd about forcing people to go to "voluntery" programs. An acquaintence of mine was sentenced to AA in one year of weekly AA meetings as part of a DUI sentence. The group leader signed his entire pass book in the third week of his attendence because he was "not with the program". But as he pointed out to her he was required to attend, not to believe in their mission or methods. His time to talk began with long loving descriptions of the cocktails he had been drinking the previous day, what wine he was going to have with dinner after leaving, etc. Obnoxious, but effective. That's why it's hard to force people into true volunuteer programs.
" Zach, 16, "
The kid is a minor. Parents can and have forced their minor children into drug rehabilitation programs, against the will of the kids, so why not this program, if the parents think it will be good for him. Maybe it will take, maybe not, but since the kid is a minor, the parents do have the right to make him attend.
Total speculation, FWIW.
Methinks most of this is blatant recruiting. Reminds me of the Shakers in New England who didn't have sex, so no children were produced. So they went to the orphanages and adopted their children - who bailed out as soon as they were able.
The saddest part is that today all the so called "professionals" are calling this aberrant behavior "normal."
Does not matter.
Parents can have their kids incarcerated for mere rebeliousness.
Not a chance, this situation has been litigated already and the rights of parents have been upheld. It does not matter that some lawyer may want the case, the parents need only show they have the best interests of the child in mind.
Generally the negative nature of homosexuality, if it even gets that far, is easily testified agains. (done it for divorce cases where we bring in an expert to testify in custody dispute cases.)
There are legitimate psychologists who do not support the notion of homosexuality as normal behavior.
Sorry but your analysis does not stand to the real world.
You are exactly right. He who defines the terms will win the argument, and once the sodomites succeeded in having their sickness removed as an official "disorder", their agenda kicked into high gear.
What once was shunned is now accepted with open arms. What once was shamed is now embraced by after-school specials and primetime programming.
Taht assumes there is a homosexual gene, which there isn't.
