Excellent point and I do stand corrected! Hard to roll over an ally. Good catch AB.

I watched a few minutes of the C-Span stuff with Chicago professor Robert Pape.He is reviewing, I guess it's his book, "Dying to win:The secret of suicide terrorists."

Pape Claims he has a 42 page document on al Qaida and their plans for the future. He claims the Spain and London bombings were forecast and there are plans for the U.S. later.

His key claim or rant, he mentions over and over, in a mild mannered composed sort of presentation, is the presence of our troops on "sacred"(my word) arab lands are the root causes of terrorism and he links all kinds of stuff to just our "being" there.

What he fails to say however is that we are rapidly training the local Iraqis to self sustain and then we will leave. That must have slipped his mind. Guy is very slick IMHO.

"I watched a few minutes of the C-Span stuff with Chicago professor Robert Pape"

I have to wonder what he is a "professor" of. He can't be a very good one since his political ideology, rather then reality, clearly dictated what he put in his book. Click the link below to find out what Iraq is really all about.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1439221/posts

In a nutshell:

In the war on Terrorism, we have a hidden foe, spread
out across a geographically diverse area, with covert sources of supply. Since we cannot go everywhere they hide out, we need to draw them out of hiding into a
kill zone. Iraq is that kill zone. That is the true brilliance of the Iraq strategy. We draw the terrorists out of their world wide hiding places onto a battlefield they have to fight on for political reasons (The "Holy" soil of the Arabian peninsula) where they have to pit their weakest ability (Conventional Military combat power) against our greatest strength (ability to call down
unbelievable amounts of firepower) where they will primarily have to fight other forces (the Iraqi Security forces) in a battlefield that is hostile to guerilla
warfare. (Iraqi-mostly open terrain as opposed to guerrilla friendly areas like the mountains of Afghanistan or the jungles of SE Asia).

But then reality would not fit in with the child like world view of the "professor", and his fellow traveling terrorist wannabees, so they just ignore it in order to maintain ideological purity in their works.

As soon as I heard him say that the war in Iraq was a distraction from the WOT, I turned it off.

Well .. I have a theory - the "sacred Arab lands" is nothing more than the land GOD promised to Abraham and his heirs - "from the great river [Nile] to the Euphrates".

The Arabs believe the land is theirs because of Ishmael - Abraham's first born [but he was born of a slave woman].

The Jews believe the land is theirs because of Isaac - who was the first born of Abraham and Sara - his wife.

The fight is over the inheritance rights to the land - by the descendents of two half-brothers.

That's pretty simplistic - and there may have been some political and other factions mixed in .. but the basis of the argument between the Jews and Arabs comes from Abraham's inheritance - and who is really the true heir.

This is why the Arabs want to push Israel into the sea - because they don't want Israel to claim the inheritance.
