On MSNBC a little while ago, they had a story about the "politics of the CIA leak". The reporter was interviewing Pat Buchanan and Democratic strategist Peter Fenn. What follows is the best transcript I could piece together quickly. I've quoted Fenn word for word.
PAT BUCHANAN: It's very, very serious...There is a credibility problem for the press secretary...There is no legal problem for Rove...Reporters in Washington have a gleam in their eye and smiles on their faces, and there's a reason for it...Pat Fitzgerald hasn't been digging for two years and judges haven't been sending reporters to jail because they don't have anything...Everyone in town (Washington) feels there is something very, very serious and today's story in the NY Times where a memo was floating around aboard Air Force One about Wilson's trip to Africa indicates this could be very big stuff.
ALEX: Peter, what kind of big stuff could Pat be referring to?
PETER FENN: Alex, this is not a third-rate burglary. The focus had been on White House staff. Now, as Pat says, with this memo from the State Department about Wilson, about his wife, about the connection, it was brought onto Air Force One by Secretary Powell. I cannot imagine, Alex, that if he's going up and down the aisles with that memo as he was supposed to have been, that he did not discuss it with the President of the United States. I cannot imagine that there were not phone calls from Ari Fleischer, the Press Secretary who was on board, back to the White House about this. This was precisely at the time when Wilson was about to publish his article. Folks knew about his position about weapons of mass destruction. I have a sense that this may go all the way to the top.
MSNBC has the best looking babes.
proof this is all bullsh!t!!! the only one that knew he was writting the article was WILSON.
not to mention the fact the press has ALWAYS said it was in RETALIATION. so means if they knew it in advance, they NEVER would of allowed it to happen in the first place...
Truly. This has to be the mightiest molehill of hysterical nonsense from the Democrats and their allies in the MSM that I can remember.
What's new?
Goofy innuendo. Anti-American Democrats and Pat Buchanan in action.
See how easy innuendo is?
All the dems need for impeachment is an offense and a majority in Congress. I don't think this is going to keep me awake at night.
Exactly:
-Rove leaked the name of a covert operative, its a crime,
-Rove didn't leak the name, but he called reporters and gave them more than enough info. to determine the name of the covert operative,
-Ok, the reporters called Rove, and the operative wasn't covert, but he shouldn't have said anything or discussed this, its unethical. Revoke his security clearance.
-Ok, Ok, Rove tried to warn the reporters off this story, but not hard enough.
-Ok, Ok, Rove is not guilty of a crime, and actually documented the attempts by reporters to try and make HIM out a covert operative, but what about this memo that said Wilson was sent to Niger by his wife?
-Ok, Ok, that memo still doesn't prove or show a connection between the administration knowing what was going on in the CIA, i.e. Wilson being sent over, and a leak of Plame's name, BUT it is a memo and was on AF1 with the President and we all know its the seriousness of the charge that matters.
-The President is the target of the investigation. He leaked the name. Ah ha, the fact that he knows what is happening in his administration vis-a-vis a rogue report by someone purporting to be sent to Niger on behalf of the administration clearly demonstrates this.
-Ok, well even if it doesn't, shouldn't Bush resign because he is the President and should take responsibility for everything that happens in the administration. Nevermind that no leak or crime has be proven?
-Ok, Ok, well shouldn't the President resign because he lied about WMD, is guilty of personally abusing prisoners at GITMO, and responsible for the Quagmire in Iraq etc?
-Ok, Ok, well shouldn't the President resign because he is a Republican and dared to win an election despite the fact that we, the MSM (you know, the benevolvent rulers of the United States and governors of all that is public opinion), told all those idiot voters how bad the President is?
-Ok, Ok, well shouldn't uhh, did we mention Abu Grab?
October. Thanks to you both for the answer. Do you know when in October? Also, do you know if that's when he's supposed to deliver his report to wherever it's supposed to go? If so, then he's probably wrapping up the investigation itself pretty soon (unless, that is, he plans to ask for an extension). You never know with these special prosecutor thingys.
I find Alex Witt particularly odious. She smirks every time she mentions US soldiers and abuse. I think because she has subbed for Keith Ober whatever a few times she is developing his female persona.
Here's a thought about this whole "CIA Leak" crapola and Valerie Plame:
I submit that the so-called "leak" was engineered by Wilson and Plame, themselves. What if, after Wilson returned from his non-fact finding mission in Niger, the CIA made it clear that Plame's job would be gone if it were discovered that Wilson falsified the information he claims not to have uncovered about Iraq trying to buy yellowcake uranium? Since Plame recommended him for the assignment and he just squandered the time and our money, the CIA would have good reason to question Plame's judgement.
What better way to salvage her job than to engineer the "leak" and claim that it was the Bush Administration that did it? If she loses her job now, it appears to support the notion that the Bush Administration has a vendetta against Plame. So, to keep from looking as though they are out to get her, the Bush Administration will do anything to keep her employed until all of the investigations and charges are completed.
In the meantime, Plame and Wilson are free to keep the story alive and use the press and Dem operatives as willing accomplices to try to find a way to give this non-story legs and strike a blow against the Bush Administration. To date, all of the investigations of this non-story have pointed back to Plame and Wilson - primarily Wilson as the source of the "leak".
This is more than just hatred, this is pathological and is indicative of the desperation that liberals have. While the Dems are still trying to figure out what their core beliefs are, they attack the Bush Administration over nonsense and the useless MSM is acting like the junkyard dogs that they are.
When your enemy is diving straight down with full afterburners it is not time to tell him to pull up. :)
Fenn is a real putz, and like all dems doesn't give a damn about this country--he would rather build up W's negatives than offer genuine, constructive criticism of what he sees as the President's errors. Smear away, Dems.
Since when is Sandy Berger going to jail?
That's been the Dem's policy for about a decade now, so I don't think anyone can take credit for predicting that.
Yes.
I'm with you...I called chuck schiester's office on Thurday demanding to know why he was not as outspoken when sandy burglar committed a felony. I then followed it up by faxing his office a copy of the WSJ Opinion piece to remind them that schiester voted against the legistlation he now holds so dear to his heart and is a complete hypocrite...get involved, call, fax, e-mail, whatever it takes!
