First Page Of New Harry Potter Book Takes Swipe At Bush
Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince

Well the new Harry Potter book has arrived and I can report the first page of the first chapter contains an obvious jab at our president. The book begins with the British Prime Minister awaiting a phone call from the "President" of an unnamed distant country, and wondering when the "wretched man" would call.
As a fan of the books and for that matter of Rowling's personal story and success, I'm saddened that liberal madness had to invade this children's classic. The first chapter was otherwise perfectly enjoyable.
I'm not saying anything else in the chapter was intentionally connected to current events, but I had to draw the comparison with what has ended up in British headlines at the same time as the book release. In the book, the Prime Minister is dealing with unexplained events, at least some of which could be terrorist like. Indeed, they are the work of sinister forces. Whereas I'm sure in this book series, ultimate help will come from the wizarding world, in reality Britain needs the support of the leader J.K. Rowling refers to as that "wretched man." How sadly misguided.

You claimed Harry Potter was leading to an increase in occult activities. Now you're saying it doesn't matter the study you cited predated Harry Potter. You're all over the board on this one.

My copy of the Old Testament has Joseph interpreting dreams. That was the province of seers and fortune tellers in that day.
The critical difference is that Joseph was fulfilling the Will of God, and his interpretation was inspired by the very Spirit of God. The "province" of the seers and fortune tellers you speak of was (and is) the province of the Devil, contrasted to Joseph, who trusted in the Lord his God, who delivered him.
Moses changes the waters of the Nile to Blood, the province of Alchemists.
Moses did what he was told by Almighty God, and that trumps any "province" you think alchemists had, have or will have.
In the new Testament, the first miracle Jesus Christ performs is changing water into wine, clearly Alchemy, clearly magic.
Jesus has never needed "magic". Don't fool yourself. Jesus was the manifestation of God in the flesh, and even when the sly and clever types attempted to suggest that Jesus cast out demons by the power of Beelzebub, Jesus was quick to remind them that Satan cannot cast out Satan, i.e., "a house divided against itself cannot stand", and nobody ever laid a glove on Him.
And neither have you.

I caught that too. I'm choosing to ignore it for now, and see how the rest of the book goes.

I'm not following the reasoning here. I guess it made enough sense at the time.

Okay, now I see. You've really gone off the deep end, haven't you.
Take a good look at the vehement defenses that have been mounted on behalf of Harry Potter in this thread alone. The Harry Potter books glorify witchcraft, and every sort of occult activity. They encourage children to view the occult as just one more "alternate" religious belief. And there will be children (and adults) who will come to embrace the occult, if only because it has been made "socially acceptable" to do so.
There will be souls lost eternally because the practice of witchcraft and the occult arts has been portrayed as something inherently good, and capable of being "controlled" by those who practice it.
That is a lie from the pit of Hell itself.
I'm not at all going off the deep end, and there will be a Day when we all stand before Almighty God, and as Jesus said "thou shalt know the Truth, and the Truth shall set you free."
For some, they will be set free into eternal joy in the Presence of God. For others, they will be set "free" so to speak, into eternal damnation.
Go ahead, laugh now, condemn what I say now, and call me anything you like. I stand on the Word of God and I answer to Him for what I do or don't do, what I say and don't say.
And I say that Harry Potter, and similar works like it, are tools of the Devil and will ultimately lead to untold eternal misery for those who embrace it, believe it, and practice it as if it were "truth".

What God chooses to do, or not to do, based upon His Will, is not "magic".

Righteous post, Mammoth!
I havent read the books, but I am surprised at the almost Dem-like explanations given here to justify this page one slap.

What God chooses to do, or not to do, based upon His Will, is not "magic". Sure looks like it. Sounds like it. Has results like it. Change the word "staff" to "wand" and Moses' trick of getting water from a stone is as magical as anything in the modern "occult" fiction you abhor.

Oh don't you worry Sparky, God has a Way of demonstrating at some point in every life, that He is Sovereign, that His Will does not depend on "magic" or any other imperfect device or method, and that is why He identified Himself as "I AM" to Moses.
And I have no doubt that at some future point, your moment too, will arrive.
When it does, remember this thread.

"My copy of the Old Testament has Joseph interpreting dreams..." Joseph interpreted dreams through the power of the Holy Spirit. Moses parted the Red Sea by doing as the Lord commanded him. Jesus is God, and created the water, and the wine. These actions are the actions of God. While there is no present evidence that 'alchemy' is possible, spirits not of God may transmit messages to humans willing to receive them; God commanded us not to receive them, and also told us that those messages were mostly lies.
These concepts are discussed in great detail in the Bible, if you are interested.

Your contributions to this thread alone prove that to be most unlikely.

"
Oz or Harry Potter?" Harry Potter, of course. Oz had absolutely nothing to do with the occult. The story did make fun of sorcery in a way, but the message of the story was socio-political. The 'gifts' given to the tin man and the lion were shown in the story to actually be within their true natures.(as in Oz was shown to be a fraud, and a charletan.)

While there is no present evidence that 'alchemy' is possibleIt's a common industrial practice now. A goodly fraction of the chips made in foundries across the world are made on neutron transmutaion doped silicon substates.
