Thousands to join vigil along both U.S. borders

More than 15,000 volunteers will man observation posts and conduct foot and horseback patrols this fall along the Mexican border from Texas to California and in seven states along the Canadian border in a new Minuteman vigil to protest what organizers call the government's lax immigration enforcement policies. Chris Simcox, who heads the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, said volunteers from throughout the country who are "concerned that the U.S. government must be made to act and take control of our borders" are signing up in record numbers for the new monthlong patrols set to begin Oct. 1. "We want a secure U.S. border and an end to the blatant disregard of the rule of law regarding illegal immigration," Mr. Simcox said. "Nearly four years after the September 11 attacks on America, we should be doing a better job of securing our borders. "Our government is more concerned with securing the borders of foreign lands than securing the borders of the United States," he said. Mr. Simcox, publisher of a Tombstone, Ariz., newspaper and founder of the Civil Homeland Defense Corps in Arizona, coordinated the "Minuteman Project" border vigil in that state in April that for a 30-day period shut down a 23-mile stretch of the U.S.-Mexico border to illegal immigration. He said the new volunteers will be deployed in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas and that other Minuteman groups will patrol the border regions of Idaho, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, Vermont and Washington. They will observe and report to the U.S. Border Patrol, but not detain, those attempting to illegally cross into the United States, he said.

I'm in Detroit. As a homeschooling mother of two with a former marine as a hubby, I'm sure we could work patrolling the border as part of our curriculum.

Our government is more concerned with securing the borders of foreign lands than securing the borders of the United States

Actually, we haven't enough to secure Iraq's borders, either, which could be part of the reason so many foreign "insurgents" keep blowing up Iraqi kids and US soldiers.

Our legislators, the administration and the rest of the government drones are more interested in playing politics than actually protecting the country. That has been true for a long, long time.

American lives, families, and jobs are worth less than the fickle games of national and international politics. If that were not true, Mogadishu would still be a burnt plain of scorched ash, Fallujah would have been "retaken" by bombs not Marines, and a giant wall thick and wide enough to support a Bradley M3 Armored Vehicle would stretch the entire length of the US/Mexico border.

Their enthusiasm is contagious. For every person out there, there are 1000 more who feel the same way. Their first "tour" was a success, border crossings dropped to near 0 during their presence. But I agree, God help us all.

This is a quote from the link that you provided. Everyone should read this document about the "North American community" that is being planned for us. The above quote is THEIR opinion on how to keep out country safe - open borders to everyone! Unbelievable!!

They could actually do some good if Congress would listen to the Secretary of Homeland Defense and pass the legislation that would stop the flow of illegal workers and free up the border patrol to concentrate on drug smugglers, MS-13 type criminals and potential terrorist.

But until Congress acts the minutemen are wasting their time.

It is ridiculous how porous our borders are. But I don't think we can ever secure them entirely. No country in history ever has.

But we must make better efforts. Otherwise, borders mean very little.
