I'm having difficulty picturing this.
I used to see snappers frequently near our pond sunning themselves, close to Wyalusing,PA but they never came to the house to visit. Too many groundhogs I suppose
I don't think that this is the reason. They prolly know that you stay in trouble as there is always a car with funny lights on the roof in your driveway!
