someone who has been officially briefed Gee, that's really informative! Note that they don't even say that this is a government official. It could be Judith Miller.
And if "someone" is vague, just consider the vagueness of "officially briefed." What the hell does that mean? Briefed by an official? Briefed while wearing his decoder ring? Briefed in an office? Called in and told to write this story by Pinch Sulzberger?

It probably means someone in the Criminal Division of the Justice Department. Probably the same person who tipped Judy Miller off about the Holy Land Foundation. That was Fitzgerald's investigation too. Somebody at DOJ doesn't like Fitzgerald and is singing to the NYT.

I think it is Judith Miller as well. I also think that the NYT is writing this article as a first step for liberals and their media whores to start their pullout from this deep sh*t that they have immersed themselves in. They know now that no law have been broken, even worse it was one of their own who started the leak and Karl Rove just heard it from some journalist.
