Rove Reportedly Held Phone Talk on C.I.A. Officer

WASHINGTON, July 14 - Karl Rove, the White House senior adviser, spoke with the columnist Robert D. Novak as he was preparing an article in July 2003 that identified a C.I.A. officer who was undercover, someone who has been officially briefed on the matter said Thursday. Wilson: What I Didn't Find in Africa (July 6, 2003)

Mr. Rove has told investigators that he learned from the columnist the name of the C.I.A. officer, who was referred to by her maiden name, Valerie Plame, and the circumstances in which her husband, former Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV, traveled to Africa to investigate possible uranium sales to Iraq, the person said.

After hearing Mr. Novak's account, the person who has been briefed on the matter said, Mr. Rove told the columnist: "I heard that, too."

The previously undisclosed telephone conversation, which took place on July 8, 2003, was initiated by Mr. Novak, the person who has been briefed on the matter said.

Six days later, Mr. Novak's syndicated column reported that two senior administration officials had told him that Mr. Wilson's "wife had suggested sending him" to Africa. That column was the first instance in which Ms. Wilson was publicly identified as a C.I.A. operative. The column provoked angry demands for an investigation into who disclosed Ms. Wilson's name to Mr. Novak.

The Justice Department appointed Patrick J. Fitzgerald, a top federal prosecutor in Chicago, to lead the inquiry. Mr. Rove said in an interview last year that he did not know the C.I.A. officer's name and did no

If you take out the marginally-minded authors' non-factual statements, the article is actually a great source of information to show that Karl Rove did nothing wrong or unethical.

"seemed almost certain to intensify the question"

um, no...it doesn't.

"raises a question the White House has never addressed: whether Mr. Rove ever described that conversation, or his conversation with Mr. Cooper, with the president."

Are they going to blame the President for the leak now?

"but many aspects of it remain shrouded in secrecy. It is unknown who Mr. Novak's other source might be or how that source learned of Ms. Wilson's identity as a C.I.A. official. "

Except for that one little bit of info which as I so far know, no one is claiming was Rove's clone, we know an awful lot about Karl Rove's role in this which is a guy who answered some reporters' questions when asked. Sheesh, you can't not talk to the vultures, you can't talk to the vultures.

All the rest of the partisan editorializing masquerading as reporting is non-sensical if you look at the facts of what they present in the first part of the story.

Bunch of morons for sure.

He more than blabbed, he put that fact on his website bio then pulled it. Many folks have captures of it with her name on it as a CIA agent.

And these two were socialites like most federal employee shallow idiots.

If the people can't start sending decent folks to work for us and represent us then we might as well give up.

They should be getting paid by the RNC. All this sound and fury signifying nothing!

Maybe when this blows over we can get them to go hysterical over Delay again. They should change his name from "the Hammer" to "the Lightning Rod".

It's sounds like all roads lead to Miller to me.

Ah, but who told Miller.

I'm thinking the only person a reporter would go to jail for is a big fat Democrat.

Of course Miller talks to Plame, that's obviously why she never wrote the story herself. Plame was her key CIA source on all of her WMD stories.

And the left just tore Miller to shreds over her reporting on WMD, claiming she just willingly regurgitated Administration lies to sell an "illegal" war. In fact, this jailing is just the thing Miller needs to salvage her career; overnight, she goes from pariah to martyr.

And now it looks like all the BS Miller reported came straight from the left's favorite "covert operative", Valerie Plame.

It starts to become so much clearer now, with all the revelations about the incestous relationships and the nest-feathering between the press, the democrat party and the intelligence agencies. Especially when you couple that with the staggering display of incompetence and willful blindness in pursuit of ideology on display here. No wonder all the players here were so anxious to keep this thing under wraps.

When I put all the pieces of this puzzle together, it's starting to appear to me that the reason the CIA didn't pickup up on the 9-11-01 attack prior to 9-11 is because they were too busy scheming with Chuckie "The Gestapo" Schumer and Joey Wilson to nail President Bush. What a shame. When I was a kid, I really admired the CIA and thought they were the frontline troops defending America. G. Gordon tells it right. They are nothing but a bunch of political hacks with their feet up on their desks reading the New York Times. That breaks my heart. The CIA can stop all this crap in the "media." They are not doing it.

So what we have our reporters, and I use the term loosely, gossiping throughout Washington. THEY told Rove, not vice versa.

I thank the NYT's for unknowingly continuing to vindicate Karl. LOL
