Hi, Gretchen. Do you see your mentee during the summer or if not, do you get any word how she is getting along? What pictures hit me hardest this evening were the ones of the Rwandan genocide memorial, as well as the ones of the little children HIV positive. Africa is such a sad place. I worked in Africa (Angola) for a while. The people are miserable. No one smiles in Angola. And it will take more than money to improve it. Jenna understands.
Hi tm2. We are allowed to meet only during the school year, on school property, so I don't get to see her right now. We are writing to each other, though, routing letters through the Mentor Program Manager's office.
I just spoke with the MPM this AM and apprised her of my move to another city at the end of July and asked if she thought I might be able to meet with my mentee once a month for two hours when school resumes, as I am not going to be able to go 80 miles round trip each week to see her for an hour; also, I do not know what my schedule will be like after I move. She said she doubts the school would do that but certainly is willing to find out (some teachers resist the mentees being taken out of class even for an hour a week, although most of them are begging for "More mentors!"). As of now, the future of the mentoring relationship is in God's hands and I'll know more in the autumn.
