Vanity - Disappearing and Reappearing posts, Hanging posts and Dimpled posts
Posted on 07/14/2005 11:02:45 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Has there been a thread yet that has asked 'what's up' with posts that just hang in the ether, appear in our "My Comments" sometimes for a long time before appearing on the thread? Or appear on the thread and then disappear?
Observations/questions:
It's been happening for quite awhile, but it used to be more occasional and it seems worse now...
Can we assume you're working on it? Any update that would let us in on the nature of the problem?
Does it happen more in the General Interest/Chat forum than in News?
Does the size of the thread matter?
It seems to help shake a hanging post loose, to reply to it from My Comments. Is this true? or just perceived? I've been 'bumping' the post from my comments on our saddle club thread and it seems to work.

I still think it is more of a problem on the longer threads. (That would explain the zot chasers not noticing anything:') Yesterday I was having all kinds of problems on the horse thread but clicking right on other shorter ones.

No, it depends more on the pitch of the screw.

No, it depends more on the pitch of the screw.also the hand, class, and fit.

I'm glad you asked me that. I have been doing a laborious study on this very question.
Here is a chart that I have created to graphically show the size question in specific terms.
Once I've completed my research, I'm hoping to have the results published in JAMA or maybe in Playgirl.

PS... http://condomania.net/content/?fitkit has a kit that can tell you "what size" to order. If you know what I mean.

I think you mean this:
I'lll post a reply, and for several minutes, it doesn't appear on the actual thread, but under My Comments, it will appear and it will say "6 of 5" instead of "6 of 6"

Exactly.... Sometimes the lag time is so long it really gets in the way of conversation!

"Does the size of the thread matter?" It's not the size of the thread, it's the quality of the posts.

I've noticed that the more you donate to FR, the faster your replies appear.
Probably a sheer coincidence.

You just go straight for the jugular, don't you? No subtly hijacking a thread with a few comments before dropping the big bombs...

This happens to me occasionally.
I find that if I grab my monitor and shake it vigorously for a few seconds and then refresh the Latest Posts Page the lag is gone.
On the other hand it's kind of neat to see on the My Comments page "post #15 of 14"...

It's not the size of the thread, it's the quality of the posts. I was pretty sure length didn't matter, but I though bandwidth did?
