China and Russia here Friday issued a joint statement on a new world order in the 21st century, setting forth their common stand on major international issues, such as UN reforms, globalization, North-South cooperation, and world economy and trade.

The statement was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin and visiting Chinese President Hu Jintao after their talks.

During their talks, the two leaders discussed ways to further enhance the strategic and cooperative partnership between China and Russia, and exchanged views on major regional and international issues.

The joint statement said the two countries are determined to strengthen their strategic coordination in international affairs and promote peace, stability and prosperity of the world.

UN REFORMS

The joint statement says that UN reforms should be aimed at strengthening the world body's leading role in international affairs, improving its efficiency and increasing its potential for dealing with new challenges and threats.

UN reforms should be based on consensus through consultations, and should fully embody the common interests of the vast number of member countries.

The United Nations is the world's most comprehensive, representative and authoritative organization, and both its role and function are irreplaceable, said the joint statement on a new world order in the 21st century.

After we squash the Islamikazis we'll have this to contend with. Hopefully, the other half of our country and the Media are on our side for this one...

Don't hold your breath. Most of them are still in mourning and denial over the collapse of the Soviet Union.

bttt - for those who think Walmart, Loral, Lenovo and possibly even Unocal's involvement in and ownership by China are "harmless." CA-R Rep Duncan Hunter wants to stop the Unocal sale. Good luck, Mr. Hunter!

I've been thinking about the challenge bin Laden has implied by suggesting that with a full scale war between Islam and the west, he can bring us down. Events propel us toward a more articulate response toward Islam, and as we move forward in that respect, we will be "taking the bait," to put it one way. Supposing we do? What was stopping this war from progressing toward a USSR-Afghanistan situation for the Coalition? Wasn't it lack of alignment of China and Russia against us, much as the west was allied against the USSR in Afghanistan?

This strengthening of trust between Russia and China, and their mutual announcement that we should get out of their southwestern regions could be significant.

To protect the peace, prepare for war.

Chavez calls for UN reform, justice in the world
Regional-Venezuela, Politics, 8/16/2005

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Monday condemned what he said the continuation of occupation of Iraq and the US polices and plots to control the world.

"The best way to enable the United Nations to actively assume its role is achieving fundamental reforms in the organization," Chavez told leaderships of the delegations participants at the16th World Festival for Youth and Students during a meeting, held in Caracas. He stressed impossibility of realizing the real peace in the world without achieving justice and equality among peoples.

He underlined the importance of the continued work among the youth to "challenge capitalism and imperialism through deepening awareness, enhancing the relations and activating communication among them" to reach a balanced and multipolar world prevailed by social justice and equality among peoples.

Chavez called the youth for setting up permanent bureau for them in Venezuela to start communication among them, and to put programs and plans for making continuous review in a way to achieve the desired goals.

At the end of the meeting the Venezuelan president raised the Palestinian flag amid applause and shouting of attendances in support of the Palestinian cause and Palestinian people's struggle against the Israeli occupation.
