I was only about 6 or 7 during Carla. My dad was out of town and my mom didn't want to leave. We were in the country in Alvin and when we left I remember it was dark and water coming under the car doors. We had the dog and my mom left a window cracked for tornados. Killed my bird.
Same age here during Carla, further south between Victoria and Corpus.
Supposing a hurricane was going to hit in my area (see my tagline). How far inland would I have to go to be safe from the worst winds and flooding? (Flooding is my main concern.)
I've seen on tv how traffic is at a crawl during an evacuation, so if I left the day before expected landfall, would I get far enough away by the time it hit? Or is that waiting too long?
Would tent camping in the Sam Houston National Forest be a horrible idea? I don't know how windy it would be that far north of Houston. I don't know much about hurricanes, can you tell? :-)
I'm glad y'all are here to educate me on this stuff. Thanks.
