A cat 2 would do very nicely.

If it gets into the western gulf it won't be a Cat 2 unless some major shearing is occurring. The water is just too hot and neither Cindy or Dennis stirred it up.

If it gets into the western gulf, we had all better hope that it hits Mexico no matter how much we need the rain.

What a difference a day makes, Emily looks much more impressive this morning.

Where ever she ends up I will be happy to see Floridians get a much needed break. I think a northern Mexico landfall could still give Texas our needed rain. Or at least come clouds and shade!

With a July like this what will August and September be like? We may have to use up the w x y and z names.

I see the forecasted track has been moved North just scraping the Yucatan.

Well, the good news is that it may go far enough south to mostly miss Texas if it gets too strong.

The bad news is that if it isn't too strong, Texas will miss the rain except for the southern end because it has to be moving north or northwest into central TX for most of the state to get the rain.
