nope -- India was close to the US and the UK during the Eisenhower and Kennedy administrations. It was only when Johnson got impressed by the Pakis and Nixon decided to support Pakistan against India (and tried to persuade CHina to attack India) that India moved into the Soviet union's orbit. It wasn't a client state of the USSR either. It considered and still considers Russia as an ally -- for very good reasons: both border China and neither borders each other: the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
I guess the LBJ corollary would be: "Great errors are not canceled by one act or by one single service."
