Actually Christianity is much in the mold of the the "Death cults" of Osiris and Mithra popular in Rome around the time of the rise of Roman Christianity. They thought that through the sacrificial death of Osiris/Mithra/Jesus represented in a ceremony, they would escape their own death and have eternal life.
