Why are we launching the shuttle after it has been damaged?

Someone help me out here. The effing shuttle is damaged (incompetence, poor quality control, stupidity) and they are launching the GD thing? Would any pilot here launch if they knew that something was wrong with any primary control or with a damaged pressurization kit? No? Ok, then why are we launching the shuttle today?

By the way, if anything happens, God forbid, to the shuttle, it's the end of the space program. (And by the way, anyone who knowingly climbs onboard a damaged vehicle and is subsequently killed is not a hero. They are just stupid beyond all belief).

Good question-----I also wonder why they advertised the date and time? Seems a little dangerous---

Sir, I beleive the shuttle was repaired. With all the scrutiny, I'm sure this is the safest vehicle on the planet.

I was thinking the same thing last night. I guess some panels fell off and need to be super-glued back on, prior to launch. Then it's good to go. Nothing to see here folks... Move along... Move along...

It was minor damage and they fixed it yesterday.

No, I won't - vernacular here from a hip-hop mind - "chill out." Something broke loose from the shuttle and damaged a tile. What else didn't have the right level of quality control that we don't know about.

Take a smart pill and get back to me sometime when you mature.

On the first several shuttle flights, they lost a significant number of tiles. They survived. Besides, this damage in not in the portion of the shuttle that gets the heavy duty heat buildup, and has since been repaired.

I'm not sure what damage you're talking about. If you're talking about the couple of tiles that got broken yesterday, I thought they fixed that.

Of course, you're never going to make it perfectly safe, but no one is forcing these guys to fly it.

Because the NASA scientists hate the astronauts and want to kill them along with the entire shuttle program. They are doing everything possible to ensure that the mission is not a success. Thankfully, we have knowledgeable people like you who understand how the shuttle functions and are willing to educate the rest of us. </sarcasm>

HUH ! I wonder why someone would start a rant thread about something he obviously know absolutely nothing about.

If you had done even a few moments research you would know that it has already been repaired.

I can't help but wonder if a tile can be damaged from a window cover falling only sixty feet then how will any of the tiles withstand the G forces during launch and re-entry?

BECAUSE THE DAMAGE HAS BEEN REPAIRED!!!

Do you really believe the astronauts have NOT investigated this?
Do you think they've been duped?

Same old story with NASA - big egos, big budgets, and a bunch of arrogant bureaucrats. Put them all together and the crew is expendable.
